The place is so calm and quiet and you can enjoy the nature .things are neat and modern and they showcase the culture. The food and service was good. We initially got a room with no TV. we requested and the manager suraj was so kind and provided us nice apartment room as complimentary. The place is little away from city and it takes 45 minutes to reach Gangtok.
I spend in december a few days in the beautiful Bamboo Retreat. For those who appreciate calm and a quiet place on the foot of the Himalaya, in Sikkim, one can only recommend this haven. The manager Suraj Basnet and his staff are all very nice and super helpfull. And iit is a pleasure to have a good nepali daal bhaat or swiss Rosti in the evening in winter next to the bonfire in the dining room. Along with a bottle of red Australian wine. The rooms are also nice, simple and comfortable, rooms with a view on Gangtok and the mountain. I will be back!
I loved everything about this placethe dreamy location, the clean and comfortable rooms, the cozy fireplace, even the little puppy! But what really stood out was the staff. They are truly incredible, unforgettably wonderful. The staff accommodated our requests for local meals in the Lepcha style, even the interesting millet beer and moonshine-like local alcohol. It was amazing to read a book from their library about Lepcha culture while drinking and eating the local foods. So unique! Exactly what you want as a traveler looking for authenticity. Also, the staff were happy to set up a nightly bath for us, which was so gorgeous! They filled the bath with flowers from the garden, so sweet and generous. I loved this place. Thank you sincerely to the staff!
Loved the experience at this hotel. Truly relaxing and secluded from the hubbub in Gangtok but close enough for day trips to monasteries and other sites close by. The food cooked by the staff here was also excellent!
The Bamboo Retreat is a little jewel - full of charm and truly magical. Surrounded by Tibetan prayer flags, t's set on a forested slope across the valley from Gangtok, with views of the snow peaks, so there are plenty of walks including to Rumtek monastery, the seat of the Karmapas,Tibet's oldest lineage. The rooms each have a balcony, a good bathroom and comfortable bed with plenty of bedding for the cold. There's a wood fire downstairs for the cold months and a beautifully decorated Tibetan puja room upstairs which is perfect for meditating. Best of all are the staff lead by Suraj, the manager. They all go out of their way to help especially Suraj who booked other hotels for us, made suggestions and generally paved the way for us throughout Sikkim. I hesitate to recommend this hotel only because I don't want it to get booked up! Stay if you love nature and peace and quiet.
