The villa/house has three comfortable rooms with attached bathrooms. Each room is on a different floor and has an attached sit out which is lovely. The bathrooms are clean but take your own soap and toiletries. We were three couples with six children. The children were absolutely delighted and loved to explore the premises. At certain portions there is a steep fall and children require monitoring. You can see nainital from the lawn and the staff boasts that they can walk to nainital in one hour. The staff is very friendly and helpful and cook delicious food. The paranthas vegfiea and chicken were just wonderful. Bhowali is only 10 km and Sattaal another 10. It takes about one and a quarter hours to reach Sat Tal. There is a grocery store at walking distance from where u can get ur chips mineral water sodas or even fresh veggies. No fruit available there though.
The negatives are that the floor is very creaky and makes eerie sounds when u walk or the person in the floor above u walks. The parking space can take only two cars and I had to park my vehicle on the road which did not seem unsafe. From the parking to the house is a steep climb and the elderly would not like it.
Stayed there in June 2015. Owner is very nice person, he guided every now & then. With the help of his guidance we covered almost all parts of Nainital & Almorah. Nice place to stay, staff are very gentle. Home away from Home.
I think, title itself, in a nut shell, summaries everything about the property. It has great location advantage and staff is courteous, rooms Ok and overall feel is specious but, everything lacks a caring touch and minor investment. Garden is spacious and overlooking valley but not kept well. all rooms have wooden flooring which creeks like something from a haunted house. furniture is century old and wardrobes kept in rooms are good closed only. towels, bed sheets everything is decade old it seems, so better carry your own towels. Mr. Dayal the owner may not like the feedback but it is a true and honest feedback which should be accepted if he wants to improve. invest little bit on upkeep and a decent upfront expenditure on flooring and furniture will go a long way.
ohh, by the way, this villa falls in the area of leopard which adds to the adventure as leopard sighting is very common and during our stay, one day he was sighted by the kitchen help and he ran and hit some timber and got injured. but as we understand, this leopard has never attacked any human being though he cleaned all the dogs and stray chickens from nearby villages.
so good story when you return to tell your friends if you sight him. we tried our best but could not, inspite of tracking in the nearby forest and sighted some deers but notalas no leopard.
And yes, the most important thing. June is pretty hot in this property as it is situated only at 1550 meters. we were extremely lucky that we had minor drizzle almost everyday, else it could be unbearably hot. Unfortunately the Google gives the location of "hermitage kailash" as in nainital, whereas it is 20 kms from nainital on Bhowali road. so I must suggest dont visit during june-july.
since we were a large group, we rented the whole property consisting of 5 rooms, out of original villa has 3 and other 2 are added at the back, which does not offer much view, infact the room below has no view.
frankly this property is good only for the large group who seek privacy and freedom, as you will be able ignore all the minor -major issues by enjoying on your own. had it been a single couple, it would be disastrous.
ya, one last thing, he must immediately procure a decent generator or inverter, as we had a harrowing time one night due to electricity failure, sitting in dark as the existing generator belong to another era, which didn't start initially and once running, could light exactly 4 - 50 watts bulbs
We were a family of 8. A very nice private, cosy cottage with good hospitality and service.
A great view of the mountain ranges.
We did have issues with parking - our large vehicle couldn't go up to the parking.
The seniors found the trek up to the cottage strenuous. but once inside the cottage - it was an awesome experience.
Every room has it's own balcony to sit out for some 'ME' time.
The attenders were excellent - warm hospitality. They even packed food for our journey.
Thanks a ton Mr. Dayal & Team.
We had a large family celebration at Gethia in June 2014, and ended up using several of the properties in Gethia. The Hermitage Kailash was one of them and we had booked all three rooms in the main cottage. The cottage is well located and has a quaint English cottage look to it from the exterior. The facade is charming, with creepers and gardens. However, the property itself requires better maintenance. We were not impressed with the level of cleanliness. The caretaker's level of hygiene is not what one expects in a commercially run property. We had paid for the entire cottage for all three nights in advance in order to secure the booking and I understand now why the owner was so determined that we pay full charges well before our stay. Had we not done that, we would have preferred to move out and stay at one of the adjoining properties. So, if cleanliness and a well maintained property are important to you, I would not recommend The Hermitage Kailash. It is all the more sad because the property has immense potential if it were better managed. The view is fabulous, the bedrooms have large windows offering great views and the cottage itself is well constructed.
