Decent place to stay in Calungate, GOA Decent place to stay in Calungate, GOA

by rajtrip2014 on February 19, 2017

We recently visited Goa and stayed at the Calungate Towers. It is located on the main street in Calangute. It is very close to the Calungate beach. Here are some postiives - 1. Excellent location, about 15 min walk from the beach - good shopping enroute to the beach 2. Premium Room is neat, good hygienic and modern bathrooms, bed was comfortable and also room size was good for 3 3. Lot of taxis are available just outside the hotel - so you can plan trips at any time of the day without prior booking 4.Restaurant opens for breakfast around 7:30 am. Ares to improve on - 1. Approach to the pool and premium rooms needs a lot to be desired. It looks very dingy and not upscale at all 2. Lot of flies in the breakfast space - I request the manager to do something about it as most of the guests will rely on your breakfast and flies are unhygienic and also makes guests nervous. 3. Room Service does not replace bath lotion and shower gel unless you request for it. Basic daily usage items should be replaced on a daily basis in my opinion 4. Noise from corridor gets into the room All in all very decent hotel although not upscale at all.

The hotel room and service was decent, breakfast was also fine. However, we rented scooties from their contact Sunny Travels(Ph 9822385180) and were fooled by really bad service. Firstly, the scooty quality was pathetic but I took it as it seemed fine in the beginning. But when I started driving, I realized that the brakes were really slow and the light didnt work at times (loose connection from the switch). I bumped the scooty into a car at night. I informed them about it the next day and the guy was like he wants to check it out right then. I told him that its a bump and I am visiting places today, so we can talk and settle it when I will return the scooty (the day after) but he wont relent. In the evening when I went back to the hotel, I called him. The guy came in with 4 other guys as if they had come for some extortion business. The mudguard had a bump but they asked me money for both the mudguard as well as the iron frame (which was unharmed). The price for a new one was 1500 and I asked him to take price for second hand as the scooty was already in a bad shape. Once again, he started threatening me as if they are going to beat me up. In the end I had to give all the money to them what they were asking for to get rid of them. Pretty bad experience.

Initially I was bit hesitant in booking the hotel after reading some negative reviews but I went with it owing to more positive reviews then negatives. V stayed for period from 26-30 Jan 17 (1 day Deluxe due to non availability of Premium rooms on 26th N Rest days Premium) and must say location of the hotel hotel rooms ,Services were ,Reception staff , dining staff (Each staff had smile on face while answering to the queries and would Overall must say a great choice). Would definitely prefer the Hotel Again on my Next Trip to Goa For Sure. Thanks Hotel Calangute Towers for such a wonderful experience.

We had visited this hotel in October,2016 on a group trip as per our experience the Hotel is good and the staff also supportive, below are the advantages and disadvantages: Advantages: 1) We had all three meals in the hotel and found the food very good; being from North we din't feel any difference and loved the food. 2) The Hotel is centrally located and the Calangute beach is on a walking distance from the Hotel. 3) Staff is supportive, cooperative and professional. 4) Rooms were clean and tidy. Disadvantage: 1) As we had travelled with the Group; so there were many facilities which were not provided like (kettle in room, packed bisleri water bottle etc). 2) We had a formal group party on one of the day; but the timing were very rigid for the party and DJ was not extended at all after 10:00 pm.

Horrible experience, can be avoided Horrible experience, can be avoided

Well I had such disgusting experience that I had to write review sitting in the same hotel. So here is the factual description. We checked in on 27th Jan, the day I entered I saw one couple shouting at top of voice to hotelier for some misbehaviour, not sure what was that, well both the days I did saw everytime whenever I pass through reception there would be some arguments going on between guest and hotel staff. So ideally I can understand after my experience. First thing which I didn't like was explanation of terms and conditions, he took 10 mins explain terms which include outsiders are not allowed and if anything gets broken he is going to charge me. Looks like we came to some filthy lodge. That was really wiered. About breakfast, there is nothing to boast however have ample of things. Overall it was ok with breakfast spread. Staff is so lousy ane slow that it takes ages to get an service. Next funny thing, this is first of kind hotel in goa which closes it's resturant at 10 pm ( yes you got it right 10 pm, mind you Iam not talking about bar) bar can be ignored as election code of conduct is running. So technically you cant order anything after 10 pm. We asked for plate and spoon and the kind of funny reply I got was unbelievable, it seems hotel manager has kept all plates and spoon in locker and left and keys are not with them. Can you imagine... Rooms - rooms are really small, I think it should 80-85 sqm. Bathroom tiles need more cleaning considering the usage. So overall on cleanness it needs a lot of improvement. Well according to me this hotel lacks hospitality ettiquites. Yes there used to be once upon a time this hotel and restaurant was one of the best in calangute, but now it's more of like budget lodge with worst hospitality. In case if you are looking for any hotel in 3-4k range there are a lot options nearby to try. Hence can be avoided.
