This hotel is not an all inclusive hotel, so don't be tempted to book if this is what you are looking for. Most visitors seemed to be on a Bed and Breakfast package. The hotel itself is fine and the staff are very friendly and helpful, but the website suggests all day dining, with various restaurants and bars, in actual fact there was only one choice for dining, and we had to walk to the sister hotel to this buffet restaurant , which was only open for a few hours, breakfast , lunch and dinner. Outside of these hours, there was no facility for snacks at all, unless you were prepared to pay for them. The vegetarian restaurant on site has to be paid for, it is not part of the AI package, the grill is non existent, the Italian restaurant is a couple of tables set up in the pool bar, and again is payable, not included.
The drinks included were very restricted, no wine is included, but you can buy a bottle in the out of bounds bar for 35 a bottle!! (6 in UK) The only place we were allowed to drink was in the poolside bars, which meant sitting outside next to a river and a lake, each evening to be food for the mosquitoes. The cafe bar on site was not part of the AI, so you couldn't even get drinks that were part of the package in this bar. So to get away from the mosquito problem, meant paying to visit local bars.
The other big problem with this hotel is the fact that they have many conferences, and the hotel is taken over by visiting business people, which means they have sole use of the only other restaurant - hence the reason we were sent over to the other hotel each day. We were there for a week and they had 3 conferences there in this time, one of which was a very rowdy 'team building' outside game affair. The noise from this was unacceptable.
The food in the one and only restaurant was very good quality, but if you don't like curry for lunch and dinner every day, then this will not be the hotel for you. They do not cater for the European palate. One of our friends was sick due to the fact she couldn't tolerate the curry each meal, and asked if she could swop one meal in the buffet for a snack in the cafe bar, was told by the Tui rep that she couldn't. There is no entertainment, even though the website says live bands and Karaoke, there is nothing, and drinks are only available between 11am and 11pm.
The hotel is fine, the rooms are fine, the food available is good quality, but restricted to mainly vegetarian curry, the staff are lovely, but an AI hotel it is not. This was a holiday we had been looking forward to after a very busy year, but we were very disappointed given what we were expecting.
Overall excellent hotel. The location is bomb. The rooms are very spacious. And the resort pool and other facilities were fantastic, good vibes. Me and my husband enjoyed
All the staff were very helpful & friendly but special Mentioned to Mr.Alush from Guest Relations. In particular who done lots of his Efforts to have our good Stay. His service and assistance was Extremly good.Well done team Rio & Mr. Alush.
I would return again without a doubt, and would highly recommend this hotel !!
This was our fourth time back to the Rio and as usual the hotel was excellent.
The faculties in the Zarra Spa are very good with an excellent hairdresser. The food was quite good. The standard of housekeeping is also very high maintained by Sumitra and her team. The staff in the Cafe Mango are really very helpful and friendly and Armand does an excellent coffee.
I have just returned for Rio Resort, the hotel is nothing special, a bit tired in places. However I was very disappointed with the package we booked through First Choice which was meant to be All Inclusive. It was anything but.
You could only get very cheap drinks from the pool bar, snacks were chargeable even thou they had all-inclusive menu for some First Choice Guests but apparently we were not on that package? There is a lounge bar but this was chargeable and you could not get drinks after 11pm.
There were 2 buffet restaurants that we could use as part of the all-inclusive package but only ever one was open.
The food was poor curry breakfast, lunch and dinner. I had tummy issues and ate out regularly at nearby restaurants.
I would not recommend for children as no entertainment and the food.
I understand TUI and First Choice are no longer offering this hotel for sale.
I am curious has to why I have seen very recent reviews of unhappy travellers regarding the all-inclusive who had similar experiences to me and these have now been removed On Trip Advisor ???
Not our first honeymoon though, We had booked inadvance Luxury Suite and Superior Rio rooms for consecutive days the reason being we could get discount through MMT. We reached Rio at night 10PM as our flight was scheduled for late evening. Initially did a lot of research on the transport and finally arrived to the decision of using two wheeler which was delivered at the exit of airport at 9pm (Booked online two wheeler rentals). We took almost 50 mins to reach RIO resort from the Goa Airport (Jio Mobile and Data Network helped us reach the destination without any hassles). We had to go through security check including our luggage bag at the resort, the resort does not allow outside food or beverages. We were given a welcome drink, post which we checked into the rooms. Had an experience of being in two different kind of rooms and yes both are good. Didn't opt for any services as we spent more time outside the resort. The resort has ample parking space for two wheeler and four wheelers. The management was courteous enough, thanks to the lady at the reception for giving us early check-in for next day. Overall we had a pleasant stay at the resort. Feeling bad for not making much use of resort facilities as we were running short of time. Ultimately, happy to see my wife very happy..
please note few things before going to this resort(Well planned vacation can help save time), They had offered complimentary shuttle services to Baga Beach at 10 AM, 12pm, 4pm and 6pm. Pool timings was from 8am to 8pm. They also offered a 10% discount on spa as we had checked into the hotel. They have veg restaurant also.
