Lovely hotel the staff are so helpful we stayed here on a all inclusive package ,All our main meals were in the buffet restaurant , Some of the meals are themed nights outside in the beautiful gardens and a lovely selection of food and dishes were served , All drinks were very good quality , Baga beach can be reached taxi or tuk tuk available outside the hotel and do barter the price . We would like to say a big thank you to Deepak, Kamal , Silvanus ,Chetan Uttan , Armando , Ellison , Elvis , and not forgetting the most important man who made us laugh everyday Sunil !! we had a lovely holiday and brilliant stay !!
It was my husband's and I first time to Goa and we were so looking forward to our holiday, we had read the reviews of this hotel on trip advisor and felt confident that Resort Rio would be ideal for us...HOW WRONG THIS PROVED TO BE..We arrived at the hotel early afternoon excited to be checking in and starting our holiday, the welcome we got from the reception staff was very poor it all seemed too much trouble, they asked us to take a seat without any explanation, we were exhausted from our long journey and a warm welcome surely is not too much to ask? After waiting about 10 minutes and feeling like there was no interest shown to us my huband went back up to the reception desk to find out what was happening we were asked to sit down again as some drinks had been arranged for us, however when the drinks arrived they were slightly warm and some type of juice, we took a sip which was more than enough by which time a staff member came over to us and said the room is ready, he showed us up to our room which was on the 3rd floor (he didn't seem particularly happy as we did not tip him, this was only due to the fact when we changed some money up at airport we were only given large notes).
We took a look around the room and my heart sank, it really was disgusting, paint peeling off the walls, bare wires taped up, dirty furniture, bathroom blind mouldy..the list goes on. We were tired and really fed up at this point as this was not what we were expecting , the non exsitent warm welcome and now very shabby so called deluxe room (which I believe we paid a premium for). My husband and I decided to get some fresh air and have a look around the hotel so we could gather our thoughts about what decision we could come to regarding accepting this awful room.
We decided we would speak to reception as we really were not happy with the standard, their response seemed to us that they had a "don't care" attitude I said how disappointed we were with the cleanliness and also we had come to Goa as a special belated honeymoon (we have been married only 8 months) could they please offer us a better room, ideally a pool view would of been nice, by which they replied we would have to pay extra!! the guy said he would speak to his "senior" and to come back later, we left it for 30 mins by which time I really had had enough so I went back to the reception and spoke to the same man again (he was so not bothered) he said his senior was in a meeting now and he would speak to him and get back to us, my husband and I went back to the room as we were so tired, ordered room service as really didn't feel like going out for a meal, the quality of the food we received was very poor and I could not eat mine.
We had still not heard from reception about our concerns about the room, so I phoned reception and asked what was being done about it, after about 5-10 mins we had a member of the housekeeping or maintenance team knock on our door he came into the room and just said "you have a problem with the bath? " to which we replied no the bath is fine it is the room which is dirty and we were looking forward to moving rooms the next day.
We really has had enough of the incompetance of the hotel so we went to bed exhausted, hungry and very upset on our first days holiday all because the staff were not interested in helping us with our concerns.
We woke up the next day and decided to go to the beach for the day, we didn't unpack as we thought we would receive some news when we returned about changing rooms, the rest I am afraid is history,,we never heard anymore which was no surprise, my husband and I decided just to grin and bear it as we really didn't want Resort Rio to spoil our holiday.
There were throughout our alamost 2 weeks staying at this hotel a number of occasions we felt let down by the poor customer service, the majority of the staff seemed to be clueless about services offered, we enquired about some trips that we were interested in doing which seemed to be a service offered by the hotel but yet again the staff seemed to have very little knowledge, on the only two occasion we booked a taxi through the hotel we were let down and told to take a seat ( they had clearly forgotten to arrange the taxi as we saw them pick up the phone so guessed they were ringing for a taxi to come to Resort Rio asap!! )
The breakfast was so poor, little choice, poorly displayed, no consistency with the service offered so badly managed in our opinion.
On another occasion my husband and I decided to use the pool in the "new" part of the hotel, because there was no pool staff on duty and we needed towels my husband went back over to the pool area in the "old" part the pool staff from there apologised and gave my husband two towels to take over to use at the new pool, however he was stopped by front of house security and was marched to reception and made to feel embarassed and told by reception towels cannot be taken out to be used at the other pool (not the kind of flexible customer service approach you would expect from a 5 star hotel!!)
This hotel really needs to look at the way it treats tourists, they clearly give much better service to their corporate business clients (of which they were many) and wedding guests they definately take precedence over tourists.
Just to finish on a slightly positive note, the security guys at the front of the hotel were very friendly and helpful ( I really think the management should take some tips from them regarding customer service! )
I would advise any one thinking of booking Resort Rio for a holiday to think first before booking my husband and I will return to Goa as we met some wonderful people but this hotel sadly will not be in our plans.
This property used to be very very good. But I guess one should trust the recent TA reviews before you book. I did write to the hotel before checkin, but that didnt seem to change anything. I think the email never reached the front desk.
As requested, got a room in the main building (coz travelers earlier reviews suggest new building rooms not advisable). But now age has started to show on the rooms. Though rooms are big but out dated. Which hotel puts 2 single beds and connects them to make a double bed??. Noisy bed. Continuous bad odor from bathroom. Very unpleasant and uncomfortable. I learnt my lesson on the very first day of my stay when i complained about the AC twice and no one turned up. Luckily the ac did start after a few hours.
The breakfast was pretty average. No one to assist you. Seriously understaffed.
The pool is beautiful but not quiet well kept. I did feel the edges and a broken tile under my feet, but nothing too serious.
Location was never the USP for Rio, but with this last experience, I guess it was the last time i stayed with them. There are much much better options at the price they charge.
Stayed in this property second time. Overall experience was good. I just had the buffet breakfast at the hotel it was not good. Better to go outside if u r buying the buffet. Rest everything is recommended other than food.
It was clean and presentable.
We were recommended this place by our friends,based on their recommendation we blindly booked resort rio from online because we got good deal.Our check in was smooth.We were explained resort facilities and escorted to our rooms.
Rooms was nice and specious with good veiw.We had a minor issue with the taxi driver but it was very well handled by Mr Durgesh.He also recommended good places for party and we all 4 friends enjoyed alot.
Brekfast was excellent.Pool was clean and huge.Reception staff was excellent and very kind enafh to help in any queries.
