this resort is located at a perfect location, Just you need to cross a river pool and you are on the mandrem beach. The food is excellent and available at a reasonable price.
The rooms quality is average and can be improved. Also, the receptionist might show you different room than the booked one, so please take care.
Facilities provided at the resort are good.
I think there is a need of full-time customer relationship officer to take care of the guests.
This Property is awesome.
This is a great property which we stayed near the Manderim beach, it is far from the city noise and away in a serene environment. The food and the services are really good and worth a single penny spent. There are other activities which can be done in the resort as well like Kayaking, Canoeing, ATB etc. Its got a nice swimming pool in the middle of the property. There are many foreign residents who visit this property and this resort also offers some good Yoga lessons to the needy. The only -ve is that we have been asking for a Thar to be arranged which is not available at any nearby areas, so you would need to compromise on your choice of vehicle.
I recently visited Riva beach resort for 6 nights, unfortunately it didn't live up to the expectations set by the website.
Although the staff are relatively helpful, it's clear that their priority is the many functions that take place at the resort rather than the guests. There is no prior warning that an event is due to take place, they just start setting up around you until it's impossible to stay put. During my stay there was a stag party, a children's party, a wedding and a pool party which meant that I couldn't use the pool, or the outside area, or the restaurant at times between 1 and 10pm. So, don't choose this resort for the pool because you're unlikely to get a look in!
I wouldn't recommend Riva for couples or families. There are many other options so take your pick.
The accommodation is okay, I wouldn't describe the wooden cottages as premium, that's perhaps a little optimistic.
So, not great value or the best experience as a guest, but visit for the day and they'll let you run riot.
Great location; great potential but trying to do too much - probably to make as much money as possible.
My wife and I stayed for a week in February 2017 in a wooden cabin. We were prepared to pay the significantly higher room rates (vs others in the area) at Riva because we were sold on the awesome photos and promise of luxury and a relaxing break.
What actually happened was that we were staying at a hotel that feels like it is being run to milk as much money as possible without any consideration for the guests staying there. E.g. Whilst we were there, there was a wedding in the grounds; a baby party (cue toddlers openly using the pool and surrounding area as a toilet; kids games and music etc) from 1pm until 10pm; a pool party (loads of people drinking and partying) from 12-1030pm on successive days. All this meant it was impossible to just lie by the pool and 'relax in luxury'. What made all of this really annoying was that the previous days we had planned days out of the hotel as we were totally unaware of the various functions at the hotel when we had planned to lie around the pool. The pool was completely unusable to relax on these days from midday due to music testing, setting up etc.
We asked why reception hadn't told us about this when we checked in, or why it wasn't on the 'Activities' board, but we got a shrug of the shoulders.
PLEASE DECIDE IF YOU ARE A LUXURY HOTEL OR YOU WANT TO BE A HOTEL FOR HIRE/FUNCTIONS. You really shouldnt pretend to be both.
We found the staff to be very friendly and able, but they were just reactive with everything e.g. Every morning we had to ask for clean towels for the poolside area. They were brought out eventually, but on the 3rd straight morning of asking it was a bit frustrating that they weren't there already. E.g. We had to to ask for our hot water to be switched on each morning for the first two days.
Other points to mention:
- Work shy staff hide in the toilets by the restaurant playing on their phones and look very guilty when you walk in...!
- Breakfast has to be timed perfectly so you can eat what you want. Often the trays are empty so you make do with leftovers.
- Wifi is terrible: Slow and unreliable. You spend all your time entering and re-entering your username and password until you just give up and go without.
- Food and drink in the hotel is way more expensive and lower quality than the restaurants on the beach.
Pros: beautiful beach, nice views, perfect place for those wanting to relax, breakfast buffet is ok. Most staff are very friendly. The hotel gardens are kept very nicely. We got two bottles of water every day along with tea and coffee and some days even a newspaper.
Cons: room looked run down and in desperate need of refurbishment. Sheets have got stains and holes. Dont know when the bathroom had a thorough clean the last time - it smelled of urine throughout our 10 days stay and the rim of the vanity mirror is covered in sticky dirt. Wifi quality is bad and requires multiple attemps to log in, some days I havent been able to log in at all.
This hasn't been my first visit to India and some of the guesthouses I stayed at in the past were cleaner and better maintained than our EUR 90 per night room in this hotel.
Also: the hotel doesn't offer any activies other than kayaking and yoga. If you need a taxi or drop to the airport dont bother asking at the hotel reception unless you want to pay a lot more than you need to.
