We had a booking at Shanti Morada but unfortunately, we had to cancel the booking because of a change of plans. We contacted the customer service department for cancellation and refund. Mr. Amar Sareen from Shanti Morada's customer service front ended this transaction with us. Without any fuss and very promptly Shanti Morada refunded our 100% advance payment. We will not hesitate to recommend Shanti Morada to our friends just because of this experience.
It is a beautiful little place amongst quiet surroundings. Close to Candolim and calangute beach. Good decor, nice spacious rooms and bathrooms. All rooms open to swimming pool in centre. Each pair of rooms is connected by a door which is great for families. Staff is friendly and very helpful. Food is average, nothing great. This is the second time me and my friends stayed here and we weren't disappointed. It was a great stay and I would recommend it to everyone.
Nestled next to calangute police station is this lovely boutique resort with spacious artistically done up rooms, a lovely pool and jacuzzi and fantastic service..it's any day better than the five stars.
I wanted to plan a short trip to make my wife's birthday a special one. We did short list Goa. We decided to brave the unpredictable season (the end of summer and beginning of monsoon) in Goa(3rd week of June) and decided to stay at Shanti Moroda. I choose the location based on the reviews. I had been to Caravela in South Goa about three months back, but this was with a larger group. This time around I wanted a more personal rather than a mass market experience. Hence the choice for this boutique property.
In all my trips, I have learn't to adjust my expectations (read lower) due to the fact that most properties have mastered the art of influencing ratings. So, we went there with our muted expectations and boy were we surprised. Our detailed review of every aspect -
Property - The property is cosy in a very idyllic and quaint location. It is relatively close to the calagute beach (15 min car drive). Thing to note is that this is not a beach property. What we see is this is a major deciding factor for few people, but since weren't looking for one it was fine. This property has around 20 rooms (give or take a few). We were told by the brilliant manager Mr. Sareen, that this was an old villa which has been tastefully renovated. A good attempt at keeping the property true to the architecture of Goa, which is unique with its Portuguese influence. The reception, dining cum cafe is on the ground floor. The rooms are on two blocks both facing the pool, on with the road side front and the other adjacent to the neighboring plot. The property also has nice swimming pool with a poolside bar and Jacuzzi.
Getting there is easy you can either be picked up by a cab from the airport or the railway stations for a charge or drive down if you have your own vehicle (which is what we did). Its close to all the happening spots in North Goa. If you visit Goa during off-season, choose north Goa as it far more active than the south.
Rooms - We stayed in the block with the front to the road. The 2 categories of rooms, Luxury and Premier. The former being the larger. We stayed in the luxury room for 3 nights. The rooms are very large and airy. Each room is different, named differently as well. We have one which faced the pool. It has a poster bed, all your usual amenities. Note that since, the property is not on the main road even the rooms facing the road are very quiet.
Bathroom - It is huge. In smaller cities, some hotel rooms are as big ;). Again the theme carries to the bathrooms, all equipped with a tub, a shower cubicle/area, and a large dry area. Packed with all amenities nothing absolutely to complain about. The only slight hitch was that on day 2 the hot water was in short supply, but it was was sorted out and no problems (this is us nit picking).
Food: They have a full fledged restaurant with a 24x7 menu, which was brilliant for a person like me who is forever hungry. We had the breakfast on all day which was very very good. This being off-season it was a table buffet. with a mix of indian (south and north) and English dishes. The items changed every day with some constants. We loved the cold sandwhich, the filling and soft panner parathas (one of the best I have had in my travels) and the dosa's. The food is made to order so, you can be rest assured of hot and freshly prepared food. The have a full time chefs (pastry and food) who do drop in and check on the food which adds to the personal touch. Apart, from this we had two dinner both of which were great good food. Special mention to the restaurant staff who go out of their way to make you feel special.
Service - We were truly bowled by the service from all the staff. From the people at the front desk, to the chefs all are brilliant. Another, important aspect which truely made this holiday a wonderful one was the chef's dinner. Its a four course dinner which the chef sits with you discusses and customizes the menu to suit you. We celebrated my wife's birthday and she including me were stunned by the arrangements, Granted, we had discussed the food but they decked up the whole place with flowers and all the staff were present and did celebrate it with us, When I say 'all the staff' here I literally mean everyone from the hotel. From the manager Amar to the reception staff to the chefs, everyone. It was truly memorable. In the excitement, I missed taking a picture which is sad. I so wished I had done it. Even the cake was made to order in house. The entire experience was very very personal and something which is rare to find.
A special mention to Amar who was connected from the time we initiated our booking and till the end of our stay. All the staff including the front office, the restaurant staff, both the chefs were brilliant. From the booking to the check-out it was absolutely fantastic experience. I will definitely visit again.
Go there for the experience, go there for the people.
