With a vast number of options online its difficult to identify the right one. Pics can be deceiving considering the marketing involved. After narrowing down on a couple we shortlisted Surya Sangolda. Was a little skeptical with the number of apartments available, the location, the property owner etc but were taken by surprise.
Owner - Turned out to be friendly and responsive. Straightforward and relaxed, not pushy at all. Had no hesitation in reducing a day of our stay with no additional cost.
Place - It was truly a luxury apartment. Neat, clean, spacious and well planned. It was so cool that we hardly needed the AC inspite of the heat outside.
Staff - Amazing. Super quick and prompt to queries and issues. Very humble and warm.
Food - Not provided but why would you need it considering the number of restaurants around. Copperleaf was kickass.
Negatives that ended into positives - The sofa was not to our liking but the staff were courteous enough to let us know that the sofa in all apartments were the same and didn't mind us checking at vacant apartments.
The spin function in d washing machine wasn't functioning as per expectation but the staff were so proactive that they didn't mind washing the clothes in some other machine. It ended up being that the machine else where too had the same problem.
Recommendation - Definitely yes, I would henceforth stay at only this place if I'm vacationing in Goa.
We loved the folk and food in at Surya. The accommodation is comfortable and truly unique. It was an easy place to get to by public transport. Good beaches close by by tucktuck or bus. We hope to return there one day
Apartment was spacious and the kitchen was fully equipped. It is located in an area with no shops or local attractions closeby. You would need to rent a vehicle if you are staying here.
It is a bit noisy at at times.
I went to surya sangolda over new year. The apartment I was staying in was amazing, furnished to a really high standard and was really clean. The staff go above and beyond what is expected to make your stay really comfortable. They knocked on my door after I arrived with breakfast, whenever I needed to go somewhere they offered to call a taxi or take me there on their scooters. On the day I was leaving I asked for a late checkout as my flight wasn't until the evening, as they needed my room for another guest they let me stay in the penthouse until It was time to check out for free. I would definitely come back to surya sangolda the only downfall is the location is a little far from the main areas as in calangute and baga. But it's a nice quiet area and a taxi is only 4/5 pound for a taxi. Overall amazing stay, with great service and staff!
We booked on the net, and were led to a nice apartment 2 room flat on the 2nd floor, however with the bedroom facing the main highway. The highway literally runs through the rooms on this side, and it is busy, busy busy - all day and all night! We could not sleep a wink with motorcycles and trucks screaming in our dreams (nightmares?). The morning found us running around up and down in our pyjamas, looking for someone to serve us breakfast.
There is no phone in the room and no one to call! After an hour, we saw a staff person and some sort of breakfast was brought to our room. The swimming pool was not clean, and obviously the 'hotel' is a residential block of some permanent residents with a few apartments vacant (which probably no one else wants since they are so noisy) are let out as hotel rooms to unsuspecting guest like us. On speaking to the staff, we found out that this place was mostly occupied by owners, and the staff basically services their needs - hence no one at the reception, or anywhere else for clients like us.
On our protest, we were given a 20% discount, which was a nice gesture, however, with 2 sleepless nights, and the price which these rooms are offered at, we would never have stayed there, even with the lowered price.
Don't mistake us, the property itself is very nicely built and located in a green forest. Only probably this is fine for those who live there, but for those of us who pay per day and check in, it is not worth it. If these guys want to the serious about attracting guests, they have to at least put in basic services like a decent breakfast, a phone, some staff, and of course sound proof the rooms facing the highway!
