After staying in Agonda for a few days we came here to The Leela for a bit of luxury and to spend New Year's Eve and my birthday somewhere special. The welcome was wonderful and all the staff were friendly and accommodating. We booked a premiere conservative room which overlooked the lagoon. The beach was wide and white. The sunbeds were in the shade under palm trees which was nice. We opted to laze by the pool as it was much quieter and beds were hard to get on the beach but it was a peak time to visit. We ate lunch at the beach restaurant which was very good. Breakfast buffet had something for everyone. Everywhere was clean and well kept. Iron and ironing board in the room plus hairdryer. On our last day our flight wasn't until 2am in the morning. The hotel kindly let us check out at 3 and also use the spa to shower and change into clothes that were needed for cold England. On my birthday we arrived back from the pool to find a birthday cake, a card and a bottle of champagne which was a very lovely touch. I've realised that each hotel all over the world has something different, something unique and there will always be someone who isn't happy with their choice of hotel. For me this hotel was about the staff. While checking out I began to get an itchy cough and a minute later one of the lovely ladies came over and asked if I would like some strepcils which she handed to me. We loved the New Year's Eve gala. Wonderful choice of food, the band were really good and managed to get a lot of people up on the dance floor and the evening ended with a fantastic firework display. The people on our table were great fun. A big thank you to all the staff and to the lovely Mona who was there's to greet us with her smile and beauty.
We stayed for five nights the past week in two rooms, 20 years ago we also stayed at the Leela Goa and were highly impressed all round at the time, and wanted the same experience this time round with by children and also being our wedding anniversary, The staff are not polished or groomed and thus evidently not trained as to be in a 5* enviroment,(seemed to uniformed, very young and placed and expected to deliver) they do not cope with the load of foreigners and guests. There seems to be a big emphasis on the Russian patronage thus ignoring the rest. At breakfast the food variety is vast, bad lacks the quality, finesse & taste. We stayed 6 years ago at the Park Hyatt Goa at a much more reasonable rate with a wonderful experience, with higher expectations at The Leela this time, but disappointed. The property overall is not in a good shape, the main dining and the main buildings around the pool are in dire need of paint and maintenance outside and even the woodwork shows signs of perish, the rooms we stayed on were exactly the same as 20 years without any upgrades on the furnishing or cosmetics, therefore tired and dated. The Leela should be in a pristine condition at all times.
I would like to positively add, the Leela Riverside Italian Restaurant was really well run, food excellent and well managed staff and management. The gardens, golf course, beach area are really well kept, we even visited the nursery. I also used the Spa, and with good treatment and service.
But, for the rest, I'm not too sure of this "glory" of Leela Goa any longer. i would like some constructive feedback from the GM, the rest of of the other Goa 5* properties were at least 30% cheaper than Leela at the time of our stay !
Everything is a beauty... the rooms... the nature... the spa... the beach... the service....the place itself.....stunning hotel!!the staff is over the top... the food is ok nothing very waw but ok... the fitness is super.... the rooms are beautifull .. the beds very comfy but a bit to hard....the sea is nice and warm... there is a restaurant on the beach where you can eat fish....
Very nice hotel to go with kids also...
a beautiful resort with every comfort and ameniy and a truly wonderful staff.
However the swimming pool is very cold and this is unaceptable. The sea by comparison is at least 3 -5 degrees warmer. Also the Italian restaurant is overpriced.
But notwithstanding those"gripes" this is a superb holiday hotel located on a great uncrowded beach expertly managed.. We will return.... Albeit with "wet suits".
