Myself and couple of friends decided to go for a road trip to Hampi. We are all photo enthusiasts. We left on a Thursday early morning and reached Hampi at 19.30pm in the evening. The entire trip was planned in a hurry. However we stayed at a place called as "Laxmi Heritage Tourist Home. Don't get fooled by the word, Hritage, as this guest house had nothing to do with heritage. although the rooms were big with attached bathroom, everything else is on us, like towel, soap, etc. this guest house is located in the Hampi village and all the villagers have built rooms for hire. Its not a 5 star or even a 3 star kind of hotel, although the entire village is very clean, people are friendly, and you have restaurants and eatery joints spread across the hotel. This village is very close to the Virupaksha Temple. No food is served by the hotel, although small restaurants are all over the village and you can easily settle down anywhere for food. The name of the person is Mr. Gowda and the guest house address is given below including the mobile number. Laxmi Heritage Tourist Home, Near virupaksha temple, Janata plot, hampi, Hampi, Karnataka 583239, Phone:094496 33839. Request all to book well in advance or else you will be very disappointed as the location of the village is ideal and the guest house is always full as they have only 8 rooms. Please carry your own mosquito repellents.
This place is very near to the virupaksha temple and in the Hampi bazaar street. Good budget place if you are looking for one or two night stay with expectation no more than a bed and a bath. The host was courteous and helpful.
The hostess made everything a chore, we had to ask for everything that was missing, like extra beds, towels, and other things like that. The beds that our friends got were cousions from sunbeds it seemed like, and one friend got a folded up blanket for a pillow. And we got very itchy after our night there.. Something seemed to be in the beds or something... And it said AC in the ad but then she said we could only have it for and hour... And since me and my friend had a fever this was not very nice... So she instead turned the AC on and off every now and again. And she did not sign any ID papers.
This homestay is not in a heritage building, do not expect much. The room was neither prepared nor cleaned properly when we arrived (Hair left in shower, no bedsheets, etc.). We were promised airconditioning, which the woman in charge turned off after a few hours, alledgedly to save money. Staff often intruded to inspect the shower numerous times. At least the place had decent wifi and a good location.
Do not expect anything fancy when you are here. Its a perfect place to be, close to the river, and the temple. Walking distance from both, the market and the bus stand. Decent staff. It is surrounded by good places to eat. All in all, its a perfect budget hotel for solo travelers or families. The rooms have very basic amnesties. A bed, table, and a chair.
