Excellent Weekend Getaway from Delhi/Gurgaon Excellent Weekend Getaway from Delhi/Gurgaon

by HimanshuJ on December 15, 2016

Great Property with big rooms, very good food and services, activities like billiards, carom, badminton and pool were also available. The property's manager Mr. Mahipal Singh and his team was very courteous and helpful. He had excellent knowledge of local area and areas in Haryana. Not only was our stay well taken care of but arrangements were made to visit the ancient ruins of Rakhigarhi (The biggest Vedic Civilization city excavated even bigger than Mohenjodaro).

Charming Property Charming Property

by Sameer_Khullar on March 26, 2016

It's a small charming heritage property located just short of Hissar. It was formerly owned by James Skinner of Skinner's Horse fame and has large grounds all around. Peacocks are in abundance. Rooms are large. Most of the furniture & display pieces seem dated... Food was homely & well-prepared. Slightly pricey but no reason to complain. Stick to Indian. There's a swimming pool, mini-gym, table tennis and badminton. They have a small bar as well, but the prices seem to be on the higher side... Nothing much to do or to see around, but that's the whole fun of it.. It would have been desirable to have the toiletries of WelcomeGroup. We were not happy with those on offer. Room service can be better. Overall, standards can be more professional within the existing set-up and resources.

A reasonable stay with a bad A reasonable stay with a bad "aftertaste"

This is a heritage property and we visited for one night to break a long driving trip. It's pretty well maintained, although some of the furniture seemed a bit knocked about, and there was peeling paint in a few places. Our room was pretty large (right next to the front door), with a large and firm bed with good linen, and the bathroom was a fair size with a shower and clean. There were nicer and larger rooms, but they're probably more difficult (and less convenient) to heat during winter. We were the only guests when we stayed. The hotel has attractive grounds, including a small rose garden. It was nice to stay in the countryside, particularly after a few city stays. There is a pool for when it's warm. But it was COLD when we stayed (in January) and the hotel was freezing when we arrived. The staff put one heater in our room, but we took another from the lounge room to get our room comfortably warm. The staff were friendly and efficient. Wifi was free, but patchy. Strangely, we could not book and pay a deposit with a foreign credit card or use an online booking service (so our driver paid the deposit for us) BUT we were able to pay our bill using a foreign card when we checked out - inconvenient and inconsistent. But our main gripe was the expense of the food ... We paid 900 rps EACH - for a three course dinner, and we had NO CHOICE in the size of the meal. A few bowls of vegetables and some rice and bread (which is all we wanted) were not an option. We had arrived just before dinner time, exhausted after driving all day, and didn't have the energy to get back in the car with our driver, go back into town to eat and then come back out again. So effectively the hotel had us "by the ....". While the food was OK, they cooked a huge amount - way too much for 2 people, and I have no doubt the dinner for which we paid fed other people as well ... It left a bad taste in our mouths ...

Peace and Solitude comes at a price Peace and Solitude comes at a price

We were in Sheikhpura Kothi over an extended weekend in October 2015 and booked a deluxe room for my parents and the lone suite for ourselves since no other rooms were available. There are only 7 rooms here which is probably a good things for those seeking peace and quiet. Sheikhpura Kothi is ideal for people wanting to get away from it all.......it has a nice swimming pool, expansive grounds with birdlife and fruit trees and indoor games like billiards, carrom etc. However there is precious little for families with active children. The rooms were nice with four poster beds but not spectacular definitely not justifying a room rate of 6000/- upwards. The meals are homely and tasty and served buffet style though there is not much of a choice. At 800/- rupees per person we found this the biggest rip off when compared with the choice and quality on display. So for a family of 4 adults you can easily end up paying Rs 14000/- for a stay of two days if you choose to have all your meals here. Definitely not worth it!!! Make sure you buy the famous pedas of Hansi - absolutely delicious. PS I am sure WelcomHeritage can invest some money on adequate signage leading to this property - no signboards at all once you enter Hansi.

Demo Trip All rooms are fine.

by GauravKashyap82 on September 9, 2014

Demo Trip There are a total of seven room. Two rooms, they are small.Queens bed can sleep only one person.Other rooms are very spacious with large bathrooms.Since the Kothi is located in a 150 acre plot,it is very isolated. But location is surrounded by greenery all round with peacocks roaming around.I am told they grow vegetables in winter and let guest children pluck the veg they would like to eat.The cooks then cook the same for the days menu. Only thing I feel about is tarrif which is a little high, specially for August period when rains prevent you from outings.
