IT COULD BE SO MUCH BETTER IT COULD BE SO MUCH BETTER

by DODCOL on February 23, 2017

This is very much a mixed review and is based on a one night stay but we were on a 41 day tour of India so we had many places to use a benchmark. When we arrived the two women on reception could only be described as unfriendly. In addition there was no welcome drink offered. To be fair the guest relations manager was very friendly. The room was fine but were astonished to find that a dirty sponge type item which had actually gathered mould had been left in the soap dish tray of the shower. It was apparent this had not been cleaned for some time. When it was reported the duty manager to his credit he was very responsive and he was also apologetic but it should have never happened in the first place. Now to the good points. The restaurant food was tasty and there was a good choice on the a la carte menu. Also the evening reception staff were much more customer focussed. It is evident the levels of guest service is inconsistent but two members of the team did however excel at their jobs. Sharath Kumar on front of house/ restaurant was outstanding and very attentive and a great ambassador for this resort. Also visited the spa and the Ayurveda Therapist Nijo Augustine was excellent and his professional training was evident. If the overall rating was based on their efforts it would not have scored average and would have been much higher. Unfortunately for us this resort did not live up to our expectations as it is not beautiful and they will need to improve their customer service delivery. It could be so much better and if their approach remains the same you could be disappointed if you decide to stay here

Charming resort with lovely grounds, gentle hospitality and the utmost kindness Charming resort with lovely grounds, gentle hospitality and the utmost kindness

by PlanetPomegranate on February 22, 2017

The room was charming and spacious with beautiful tiles and textiles. It was very comfortable, with the one exception of difficulty adjusting the shower temperature. The dining room was inviting, the food delicious and the music enjoyable. The common sitting area was beautiful. The gift shop had many interesting and lovely pieces. The grounds were very nice and peaceful with interesting plants and singing birds. But the most wonderful part was the loving kindness and care personified in Jayakumar!! After guiding us around the grounds and informing us of the uses of many of the plants, he generously made a medicinal tea for my sore throat and friend's cold, showing and explaining the ingredients involved. He voluntarily made us another cup later and explained his meditation practice as part of the beautiful way of life he practices. A very beautiful person, a privilege to meet him, and a wonderful memory! Many Thanks!!

A new year to remember A new year to remember

by KrispyPlymouth on February 22, 2017

We stayed here over new year and our visit was memorable in so many ways. We were given a lovely welcome and shown to our room. We arrived in the dark and were told we had a balcony. It was more like a wooden shed, but it was a good room for drying our washing. After arrival a room boy turned up with a bucket of smoking coals which he swung around the room. Not sure if it was to spread incense or to act as insect repellent. The water heater needs to be switched on a good 15 minutes before you need hot water. If you use the way basin be aware there is no plug. We had to improvise with a bung made from tissues! But the real highlight of the hotel was the fantastic new year celebrations laid on for the guests. A marvellous buffet under the stars with so much food and a terrific variety of dishes. Prawn curry, cauliflower, mushroom, bean pepper, baby corn curries, chicken, breads, kebabs, lovely fruit too. While we ate we watched the many different acts on the stage. Beautiful dancers, choirs, musicians, hula hoops, drummers. We loved it all. Joining in with the dancing later was terrific. No one had a better start to 2017 than us! Thank you everyone who participated in the celebrations. Another great asset to the hotel is the little shop. Very nice jewellery and trinkets at very good prices. I bought lots of presents for my friends at home and they were delighted with them. If you get the chance to stay here don't miss it. The rooms may be a little old fashioned, but the overall ambience of the hotel is delightful.

Great hospitality, great ethics, great ambition Great hospitality, great ethics, great ambition

by David C on February 20, 2017

We visited Hoysala for 3 nights with a group of 20 people. Hoysala Village is a beautiful place to stay and well placed for visiting halebid, belur etc. The resort has gardens with the local flora and its own farm where they source many of their organic ingredients. I get the impression that many people visit just for lunch while sightseeing or stay just one night, which is a shame as the hotel is well worth a couple of nights at the very least. The manager went out of his way to welcome us and accommodate our needs, and laid on a number of extras that really added to our experience including a cookery demonstration, dance performance, magician (who was fascinating!) etc. He was at pains to show us everything that they are planning at the hotel including a range of extremely stylish and well appointed new rooms. He also revealed his ambition for the hotel to be included in the top 25 hotels in India in the future (he has taken charge of the hotel relatively recently). This is one of the reason for 4 stars, to give a little scope for it to improve which is clearly the manager's agenda. The pool area could be improved, and needs some comfortable loungers, and the dining room is a little dark (although food truly excellent). However we were more than satisfied with our stay, everyone seemed keen to go the extra mile to make our stay memorable, and the sustainable and health conscious ethos of the resort is definitely to be admired. Loved it!!!
