We arrived at Dewa Mandawa in the late morning and were immediately welcomed by Durga Singh the proprietor and scion of the family whose historic home this is. Over a cup of tea in his lounge he explained everything we needed to know about the hotel, its history and much of what was worth seeing or doing currently in Jaipur - all of which was very helpful indeed. Our suite was very comfortable and well appointed and we were very happy there for our stay of one week. Some people have commented about noise but it is near to a busy road and there is the minaret of the local mosque not far away but the suite has recently been double glazed so at no time was noise an issue for us. One thing to note is that there is no lift so if you have mobility problems you should seek a ground floor suite. For the geeks out there the WiFi is also very good indeed. Although there is an indoor dining area meals are normally taken on the outside terrace and the food is very good although by the end of our stay we had been through the menu. Durga Singh also offers an "Indian" element at breakfast every day which is interesting and informative. Before dinner every night there is a traditional puppet show by an elderly Rajasthani couple as a cultural element; I found this very interesting as the actual story has similarities with the plot of a typical English Mummers Play and the puppeteer uses a vocal device that sounds very similar to the "Swozzle" used by Punch and Judy performers. The staff are never far away and Durga Singh runs his team with quiet efficiency; they are very helpful and always attentive. The same can be said for the team in the office who helped me out with a problem that I had with the SIM card of my phone. They will also arrange a Tuk-Tuk or taxi or anything else that you may require. Many of the sites in Jaipur are within walking distance, I know this because we walked to them ourselves. We had tasked the company that arranged our trip to India to find comfortable, small and quirky hotels and Dera Mandawa fitted the bill perfectly and we came to feel very much "at home" during our stay. If we ever return to Jaipur we would certainly wish to stay there again.

I wish we could have stayed longer here I wish we could have stayed longer here

I immediately fell in love with this haveli, Mr Singh, and all the team who work there. The building is beautiful, and set in peaceful gardens, a true oasis. Mr Singh and his team are absolutely wonderful and just effortlessly bring everyone together. We had 2 wonderful, delicious evenings there, and wish we could stay longer. On a boring practical travel note, but good to know - the laundry service is great. The rooms are spotless, spacious and OH SO comfortable. It's easy to arrange money changing with them. As soon as you step outside the doors, you are in walking distance of so many sights of Jaipur, the markets and the metro - making getting around really easy. They also hold cooking courses - if we had been there longer, I would have booked myself in. The puppet show in the evenings are charming and a very special part of your stay. Lounging around in the gardens with a gin and tonic and great company - the perfect evening, and perfect stay. We are already threatening to return!

I cannot stress what a gem this lovely old house is, or the generous hospitality from the gracious owner. He is much in evidence overseeing every detail. The open courtyard garden is the setting for meals served on colourful tables and chairs. The food is delicious and our room was beautiful. It. Had an upstairs gallery and columns draped in colourful cotton surrounded the bed. The bathroom was generous and toiletries all provided. We were invited to join in the Holi pcelebration the evening before the festivities began and it was a privilege to have watched it. A great stay.

Fantastic haveli. Fantastic haveli.

This place is a gem amongst the detritis of Jaipur. If you happened upon it as you drove by you would not dream of what lies within. As others have said before me, the 'hotel' consists of rooms/suites around a central courtyard - very peaceful and green. I struggled with the breakfasts - I found the GF millet pancakes really unpalatable, but appreciated the thought that had gone into them.I was offered an omelette, asked for cheese and tomato and got cheese - but it was tasty. Dinner on our first night was very good. The staff were all smiles and helpfulness. The room was romantic and extremely clean. We didn't manage to get a hot (or warm) shower so woke up oretty sharpish! I would recommend this hotel/havali for a taste of Indian hospitality.

Demo Trip All the rooms were wonderful, but you might try asking for the honeymoon suite, if you are after that very special experience.

Demo Trip We were on second floor near the garden. I would think all rooms are the same -noise wise.
