I stayed in this hotel for 5 days in month of December 2014. Overall, it was a memorable, pleasant experience. Amazing homely food, good people, nice and very spacious rooms, location, accessibility, convenience, are a few things I remember. In short, value for money ! This property grows over you as you continue to stay here.
While the name may suggest a heritage property, the building itself is only about 3 years old. It is comfortably ensconced in a peaceful residential complex, yet only a short walk away from bustling commercial activity in close proximity. Public transport, auto rickshaws, Banks, grocery stores, sweet shops, and all that a budget traveler may ask for !
The entrance itself is like entering into a private residence, and as you climb a short flight of stairs, you would expect to enter into living area of a private home. But this is where, and only place in this hotel, the Owner has tried to give some semblance to its name heritage, to give it a typical Rajasthani flavor. In fact, you feel a tad spooky as you enter. Rich, bright decor, tiger and deer mannequins, animal busts adorning the walls, swords and weapons, everything that you would expect in a heritage Rajasthan property. And to top it all, loud chirping of birds perpetually drawing your attention. Initially I thought, it was some recording of music playing. But NO, these are live birds in one corner of the dining area. You dont need any piped music in this hotel lobby, because even if you play it, it wont be heard. Or, it cant be heard !
Food, food & food ! That is the best thing to talk about for this hotel. Taste, quality, presentation, texture, variety, everything is outstanding. I am a vegetarian and the chef dished out some amazing variety of Indian cuisine. Freshly cooked as per your choice, always and every time. In fact, a few times during our outings, we would come back to the hotel for food here. For me, when it comes to food, a lot depends on people who are serving it. And probably this is one of the reasons, more than what I mentioned earlier, that I am head over heel for food here. The people ! Always eager, more than willing to serve, ever smiling, affectionate, caring, running around, ensuring that hard work of chef in the kitchen remains unblemished, if at all, they falter in the last mile. Truly remarkable ! The kitchen itself is small, but clean and hygienic.
Next, of course, is the people, undoubtedly . They truly make you feel at home. Informal, smiling, and willing to walk the extra mile, they make an immediate connect with you. Small informal conversation is what it takes. We were a large group of extended family, elders, the mid life crisis category like me, the next gen, ladies, kids, a potent mix of potential trouble makers, to attend a family wedding in Jaipur. And they handled all needs and requirements, whims and fancies, with great aplomb. Once they opened the kitchen in a very unearthly hour to meet some emergency requirement. As it happens in every Indian wedding, people arriving, departing, coming in, going out and darting around at all times of the day and night, and they were always there with a smile, including the watchman.
Rooms and bathrooms are nice and spacious, specially the family suite category. In fact I thought you could play a game of hide and seek in room where I stayed on third floor. Sleep quality is good and you have all modern amenities in the room. Nice, cozy and homely sit out space outside the rooms on floors worked well for us and we had a great family bonding time here. The hotel also has a large party hall, one level below lobby, where we had family dinners and breakfast on occasions. On other informal occasions, food could be served in floor sit out area. Mostly, we chose not to disturb the dining space at lobby level !
As I said earlier, this hotel grows over you as you spend your time here. It is the food, people, rooms, location, convenience, accessibility to everything that you may need. You may choose order of preference as you desire, but all of it would hit upon you in some way or the other !
Overall, a great experience ! We ate, we slept, we sang and we danced, we had a good time indeed. Try this one if you are not the luxury, hoity-toity kinds, travelling on budget, single, couple or family. I would go back here, if I get a chance to holiday in Jaipur again, and I am sure you would as well !
If only they could free the caged birds, it will still be nice !
