I want to start with saying, this is the first negative review I have ever given. On arrival we were shown around a few different rooms and immediately the owners tried to overcharge us (we had an idea of price range from lonely planet). Eventually we took a small, dark, claustrophobic room with a shared bathroom for 500 RS. The manager was rude, unwelcoming and not very helpful. After one night we decided to leave and tried to pay with the 2000 note, which was all we had. At first the manager did not accept and then he proceeded to give us old currency. The old currency is of no value anymore, especially not to tourists who can not exchange the old currency unless they have an Indian bank account. The manager knew this and blatantly tried to scam us, when we had been paying guests. After I confronted him about it, he started shouting and but then gave us our due change. Before leaving I questioned him on this once again and he said he was only showing us the money. I will certainly not visiting Kailash Hotel again.
Staff were very polite here. We were able to book a cheap room the same day of arriving with no fuss. There was a tourist desk upstairs to give us maps/advice on booking trains. There was some difficulty with translating, but still helpful. No wifi but good location for looking around the pink fort, because of this quite noisy at night. Don't expect anything fancy but does the trick for a night.
The location was OK. Central. Apart from that, I could not even understand how they gave the room to us could even be called ready. The dustben was not even empty! can you believe that. no hot water even after i asked for it particularly while booking. Go for a couple of hours if you need to. I anyway had to check out to another place
I have created a trip advisor account just to warn people against this place! It is the worst place I've ever stayed. We picked central location but in hindsight, it would be better to stay out of the old city in a much nicer place. The staff were not particularly welcoming or friendly. The room was very dark, cramped and most of all unclean. The sheets were dirty and marked. A mattress was placed on the floor however mattress is a generous term, it was closer to an infested blanket. The bathroom was disgusting. Very dirty with a shower that just released a cold dribble. It is inner city so extremely loud with traffic and shouting going on all night. The next day when we checked out in the morning with a train in the evening we were told we couldn't leave our big bags anywhere. We couldn't believe it! We tried to leave them at the train station but as they are travelling bags without one secure zip we were told we couldnt leave them there either leaving us dragging round our bags until another hotel kindly let us leave them for a few hours. One positive from Kailash is that the manager did take off 100 rupees from the room after showing him the shower issue. Overall, awful place.
i booked this hotel because it was cheap and in inner city. I had a very bad experience with this hotel for the following reasons: - hot water you get in a bucket because there is no warm water coming out of the shower - the hotel was not clean at all! very dirty rooms, the sheets were not replaced for weeks i think. - on the floor and under bed there was still things of the person before. - but worst of it all is that the mattress had bed bugs and caused many problems for me the following days. So for sure there are much better place for budget travelers out there than this one. Do not stay here!
