Khuri is a small village out in the desert and Shanti Resorts is a Desert Camp with Swiss tents and a few Mud Huts. The Sand dunes are about 1 km away from this camp. The price included dinner and breakfast and Camel ride into the sand dunes. We arrived at this camp about 1/2 hour before sunset and we went for the Camel safari immediately since the sunset was almost happening. The camel ride is quite a terrible ride and only meant for young people. It is extremely bumpy ride, especially when the camel goes into a gallop. In any case, we took a Camel Cart in which we sat, pulled by a camel. The desert and sand dunes was quite nice to walk on. White sands was a pretty sight. Later in the evening we sat around a bonfire and enjoyed some good Rajasthani music and there was just one girl dancing around doing the same steps over and over again. It was quite boring. Following this they played the usual Bollywood Disco songs on the CD player and the young people jumped around pretending to dance. The Dinner was quite horrible and tasteless. We had no other choice. Even the coffee was horrible. The dinner was more like what one gets in a military outpost. Anyways, we went off to our tents by 9-45pm and retired. The swiss tents were ok. They were clean and the attached bathrooms were clean. However, there was a water problem and so in the morning we had no warm water. The outside \temperature was 10 deg C and no hot water. They boiled water in the kitchen and brought one bucket of hot water for each tent. Terrible experience. We had to brush and wash up using this hot water, which ran out quite fast. we had to wait our turn to get more hot water. No water in the pipes. Management was apologetic and the excuse they gave us was that they are giving us an experience of poor village life in rajasthan desert. There are other better equipped resorts for the same price in Jaisalmer. dont ever pick this one if you know whats good for you. Regarding the camel ride - no big deal. You have to be able to handle the stench of these dirty animals.
