I loved this place and extended my stay to three nights..It was an easy hours' bus ride from Jodphur. I loved the stone walls of my room, found the furniture to be solid and the atmosphere lovely - and peaceful! Lovely courtyards with plants and birds galore. My price included all meals - which were very high quality - always buffet, offering a good selection of dishes and beautifully presented - especially the candlelight dinner on the rooftop! I found the owner, Praduman, to be very friendly and helpful, good communication before I arrived, and the staff/service very thoughtful. I relished the fact that Chandelao is a tiny and quiet village, and found there was heaps to do. There is a beautiful fair-trade womens' craft shop next door, where I enjoyed watching and chatting with the women while they created. When I wandered through the village, the people were super-friendly and invited me into their homes. One day I walked with other guests to an even smaller village about an hour away, and we had a very special afternoon with people there. Another day, we caught the local bus to the busier market town of Piper - while exploring the market and winding streets of this town, we again had very memorable interactions with locals and were treated to such generous hospitality. If you like the idea of a peaceful environment with lots of bird song and great food, tiny villages you can visit by foot or bus, and interaction with locals - you will get lots out of visiting Chandelao.

We don't understand all the raving reviews about this hotel. There is nothing special about it. Yes, the garden is quiet and peaceful, but there are plenty of hotels which have a lovely garden as well nd offer better quality and better atmosphere at a lower price. There is no menu here so you have no idea what they will charge you in the end. (And you have no other choice but have dinner here because there is no other restaurant in the wide vicinity). The first thing we were asked while we sat down for dinner was to make a choice out of a extensive selection of alcoholic drinks. We thought this was a hard sell approach. The furniture in the dining room was old, my chair was wobling, just as the table. Our room was o.k. but had nothing deluxe about it, except for the price. The bedroom had walls of unpolished natural stone and reminded me of a medieval prison cell. The village is not of special interest, although the villagers are nice people. On top of the high rate the hotel charges an extra 5 % if you pay by credit card. Luckily we only spent 1 night in this place.

We stayed at Chandelao Garh for 3 nights, a welcome break from our busy travel schedule. A beautiful place to stay, with a lot of old India charm. Its quite out of the way, a good hour from Jodhpur, with a very small village which we enjoyed walking through. This is real rural India and off the grid in a good way (no TV etc) but very beautiful & atmospheric. The food and rooftop dining was really special.
