I just reached few hours back. Already loving it. Such an eco friendly place. The dinner was amazing. The staff is superb & very passionate including the security guard. The bar & their incredible collection of music is top class.Anyone can spend one whole day here. The bar overlooks the lotus pond. So much of positive energy. Every minute detail they have covered it in all aspects of customer service.
This review is about my four month old visit. It was a long weekend and Kabini was in my bucket list for long time. After checking reviews i narrowed down to red earth.
Booking was smooth over the phone , no hassle. I booked well in advance considering long weekend crowd.
Approach road is not good for last couple of kms but drivable.
Welcomed very nicely by the staff , they asked us to have lunch first as we were bit late in reaching . After the lunch we were moved to room after giving brief details about resort and facilities.
Rooms are spacious with open air jacuzzi in a small garden . Overall rooms old style nice interiors. toiletries provided in bathroom were sufficient . Overall sleep quality is good.
Resort is full of greenery everywhere right on the bank of kabini. Flora in and around resort is really good which will give you a much needed peace away from city crowd
Next morning bird watching was a treat as its not just for namesake , guide was much informed and gave us a good walkthrough.
We spent the day enjoying their activities like carocle ride, bicycle ride, speed boat , jeep ride temple darshan and a magic show. Overall a happening day
Next day morning they were very prompt in waking us up for the jungle safari . Ticket were booked in advance.
Their bar is good , i like the atmosphere in the bar as its sorrounded by water body have a pool table and lots of books.Bar have nice collection of drinks.
Only thing where there is scope of improvement is food. Quality is good but taste should be improved.
After spending two days of quality time it was time say good bye to resort and to this review.
Weekend trip at this hotel and we were pleasantly surprised with the beauty of it !
Located at the bank of the Kabini river the atmosphere within the hotel premises is beautiful . There's 21 very cute and well done cottages in the property with Jacuzzis and the toilet being outside the room .
The buffet spread for all meals was very good . The food was very good as well . They serve evening tea/ coffee at the wonky monkey cafe by the river . Lovely atmosphere this month but most might find it chilly .
The safari gate is 8 kms from the hotel and we need to take our own vehicle to the gate . While I was here it seemed like the hotel doesn't provide a drop to the Safari gate and were advising all guests to take their own cars . This wasn't particularly good as you usually expect the hotel to drop you there or the canter to pick you up .
The safari in itself was a very bad experience . Terrible terrible terrible . The Karnataka forest department needs to improve a lot when it comes to making the Safari a good experience . It felt like a bus safari on a government bus . They allow infants on the Safari and that for a real enthusiast is bad news . We had kids crying throughout the bumpy ride and that was a terrible way to start and end the Safari . Barely spotted anything as well . There are no guides on the Safari bus so it's basically the driver just driving the bus around . Good luck if you want to stop to get a picture of a bird or something other than animals that may interest you . You can definitely give the Safari a skip . I never thought I would say this because I am a safari enthusiast and I was in kabini for their safari .
Overall the hotel is a good place for family and loved ones . Lovely ambience good food and things to do within the hotel premises .
I visited Red Earth with my family twice in the span of one month. Our first visit, we booked three cottages overlooking the Lotus Pond. The second visit we had a cottage that overlooked the pool. Mr.Srinivasan, Manager of Red Earth is a familiar friendly face if you are a regular at the Department Safari. He ensured prompt and timely response to our requests and queries. He ensured we had early check in and late checkout during both our visits (as rooms were available). Mr Arun at the property assisted us with a smooth checkin as we sipped on our delicious welcome drink made of fresh fruits grown at the property.
Red Earth is about 235kms from Bangalore. A very relaxed car drive if you leave the city at 5am on a non-holiday weekend. We stopped for the Thate Idli at Bidadi and then again at Kadambam for their famous Pongal and Puliyodarai. Highly recommend taking a left at the Columbia Asia Mysore signal to reach HD Kote as the roads are wider and a pleasure to drive on. Once in Kabini, make the left at the junction where a local restaurant called Tasty is located. 5kms further down is Red Earth. The roads are dirt road which are currently undergoing major overhaul. This stretch is a bumpy ride and can get tiring and trying during rains. But it does meander through the village so shift down to 2nd gear and watch the life unfold around you. If you want to spread joy, be sure to travel with a big bag of chocolates or school supplies for the local school kids. They swarm you with their smiles and it is a joy to add unexpected sweet surprise to their lives.
Red Earth is a garden paradise. It is nestled on the Banks of the river with each cottage surrounded by dense vegetation. Our cottages boasted of Passion fruit and lemon trees, fertile with fruits (that you do not pick. It is used at the Buffet and the rest left for the many winged visitors who frequent Red Earth. Mr Srinivasan thoughtfully packed a few for me). All rooms are designed identically. The entrance is rustic and opens to an open air Jacuzzi, compact enough to fit 3-4 people with a squeeze. The decor is rural rustic and tastefully done. The actual room is spacious enough with all the comforts (AC, fan, TV, Fridge, coffeemaker, robes, slippers, Yoga mat). The bathroom is clean and spacious with a set of toiletries. The water pressure is perfect in all the spouts and hot water is available for few hours in the morning and in the evening.
The temperature is few degrees cooler at the property thanks to the beautiful vegetation that surround each of the cottages. The pool is big and clean and offers enough privacy. For a nominal fee, a beautiful dinner can be arranged by the pool side with music (Mr Srinivasan along with a friend of ours surprised us with a pool side dinner to celebrate our 15th wedding Anniversary).
The restaurant serves you high quality, absolutely delicious and a wide variety of food. Vegetarians will be delighted to know that they have two separate kitchens for cooking meat and non meat dishes. Even egg does not find its way into the vegetarian kitchen. My meat eating friend vouched that his dishes were equally delicious The restaurant staff are very friendly and service is prompt and courteous. Do enquire with Manjunath about his daughter Bhoomi who is winning laurels in Karate and hopefully soon for our country too.
I absolutely enjoyed the Spa services and highly recommend the guests to try it, specially the Swedish Massage and the fruit facial (Lemon juice, chickpea flour for scrub followed by massage with fresh pureed Tomatoes, apples, banana, papaya and finally fresh cucumber mask). Kalakalki services the men while Devika and Sumitra for the ladies. Both the ladies were dedicated, professional and proficient at their job. The spas also caters to guests as young as 6 months and these ladies have the gentle power to massage a baby and enough strength and stamina to service an adult for 90 minutes.
The steam room does take a woefully long time to build up effective steam (bare minimum of 20 minutes) Sadly we skipped it all the time. The bath and the steam room are a short walk away from the massage room. The bathroom is open air, which is wonderful when it is warm and sunny. During rains and colder months, it gets inconvenient - as there are no cupboards to keep your dry clothes and you feel the crisp, cold air during the colder months.
The cafe by the river banks serves tea, coffee and snacks in the evening. It is a beautiful place to relax and there are many hammocks for one to unwind with a book during the day. Red Earth organises coracle and speed boat rides from the pier across the cafe. One could also experience the village on a bullock ride for a nominal charge.
Don't miss on visiting the1600year old Shiva temple and of course the Boat and Jungle Safari. The Forest Department Safari (Canters only) is at a distance of 8km from the property. The Jeep safari at JLR is about 22kms and costs twice as much along with lens charge as well. You can also take a longer road trip to Nargarhole Reserve which is about 55kms from the property. There is also guided nature walk, Bird Watching and village walk for the early risers. Cultural evenings are organised on select nights as well which treat you to a slice of the local art.
The parking area is not vast but does accommodate most cars. Red Earth's pricing is competitive in comparison to its competition. It is Rustic Luxury. Having experienced an utterly disappointing stay at The Bison few months ago, Red Earth is a breath of fresh, clear, pure air. If you love the music in silence, then this is the place for you. Red Earth takes your spirit and connects it to the land, the wild and the water. It is a safe haven for senses that has been eroded with mindless noise.
We stayed at this place after reading great reviews on tripadvisor.
From enquiry to booking via email was all smooth. Sales team replies quick so u can decide soon.
Journey from Bangalore is great except last 4.6 kms, which is very bad. Road goes through a village and its muddy n bad. Thank goodness no rains that time.
The moment you reach hotel all great. Valley parking, room allocation swift. They have 21 cottages and grow most of the fruits vegetables in the resort only.
Rooms are not very big but decent. The AC, TV are working nicely. But only default in rooms that we found was very less lighting. It just gloomy n dark, with two year old toddler, we wish it was little more bright. No room service for food.
Bathroom are big spacious with everything right.
Food is great from breakfast to dinner everything is delicious. Mr Manjunath makes it more enjoyable with his nature and service, my daughter enjoyed his company. He was playing with her when we were having food so we felt nice. They specially made food for my daughter at the time of arrival n departure.
Resort is properly maintained with good signage n paved paths. Everywhere u can see fruits or something which is exciting.
The cafe wonkey monkey is ideally placed on the banks of the river. With great sit outs.
Overall its a nice experience, the road might get repaired soon as per hotel. Its calm n refreshes you.
