Very good property Very good property

Nestled cosily in the lap of Himalayas, this hotel offers great views of Mount Kanchenjunga. We chose the heritage wing and were served breakfast on the first floor balcony. This was undoubtedly our best breakfast ever with the breathtaking surrounding view on a clear morning that was neither warm nor cold. Skip Darjeeling, since it is filthy and overcrowded, and choose this place to spend your entire vacation instead if a relaxing holiday is what you truly want instead of sightseeing pit stops as in a package holiday with your heels eternally on wheels!

Horrible experience as the hotel is sold out Mismanaged staff Horrible experience as the hotel is sold out Mismanaged staff

We had booked this hotel way before in Jan, 2016 and checked from time to time with the hotel personals about our reservation. Upon arrival on the hotel at 2: pm on our first day there was nobody to attend us. we were told that the hotel is sold out to Mayfair. We were in a fix as there was nobody to tell us what was happening and neither did the hotel staff informed us about this. We called up the manager Mr Nigam. He said that he would be coming at 5 pm. We waited for him as we had no other option. Mean while the Mayfair people wanted us to shift from that place. They even tried to show us other hotels but those were not upto the standard. When Mr Nigam came, he ensured us that all the facilities would be provided to us in this hotel only what hotel had promised us earlier. Hence we decided to stay. The stay was nice and comfortable and Mr Nigam took care of everything. But the Mayfair people were very rude and didnot want us stay. It was because of Mr Nigam we were able to enjoy a comfortable stay as last customer of Himalayan Hotel.

Chill out among the clouds Chill out among the clouds

It was a family trip to Kalimpong. Three days (12-15 May, 2016). Himalayan Hotel is a beautiful retreat with great views and superb service. Special mention must be made of the front desk managers Mr Nigam and Mr Gurung who took care of every comfort and every request of ours. Kalimpong is about sudden fogs and mists and sunshine and walking around inside clouds. Day 1: Just chill in the hotel and walk around. Day 2: Hire a car and take a sightseeing trip. Certainly do paragliding. It's absolutely safe and total fun--an experience you will cherish. Day 3: Go to Darjeeling, via Batasia Loop and Ghoom monastery. In Darjeeling, walk around the mall, browse a quite unique collection of books at the Oxford Book Store, buy vintage prints from the Das Studio, have lunch at Glenary's and hot chocolate at Keventer's. We enjoyed ourselves thoroughly. Will certainly go back again and stay again at Himalayan Hotel.

A diamond among rotten coals A diamond among rotten coals

Kalimpong, the name sounded very exotic...we were excited to drive down 3 hours through snaking roads downhill from baramangwa...and to our dismay kalimpong was the worst ever stinky dirty town we had ever been to...went from pillar to post looking for a decent accommodation...the key word decent because everything else was so stinky!!! Having inspected a lot of hotels in the town, we were ready to drive back when we chance upon the Himalayan Hotel. Being on a tight budget we hesitantly entered this regal looking colonial place and instantly fell in love with it. The tariffs were also affordable. It's like an oasis in the desert. So colonial in everything. The tea they serve, the separate building where breakfast lunch and dinner are served, the changing of plates for different courses, the butler etc the whole experience was worth it. Kalimpong made bearable by this old quaint hotel. a walk in the compound , loafing in the garden everything is memorable here

Lovely hotel with great food Lovely hotel with great food

It was a family trip. Almost 20 of us turned up and we had a great time. Our stay coincided with the local assembly elections but the staff ensured that we had no issues. Service was good, food was great. Do try the continental fare, esp the onion soup. We were the only residents of the hotel. Rumours are that the property has been bought by Mayfair group and it will change hands in summer. The staff are in tenterhooks, but they did an exemplary job of keeping pace with our demands.
