We travelled all the way from Aruba to kanha in madhya pradesh to celebrate my husband Sanjay Jashnanis 50th birthday with our two boys Yash and Shiv , 7.5 and 6.5 years old. My husbands entire family flew with us from Mumbai for the celebrations so in all we were a groep of 17 and stayed in 5 villa's.
We had the most amazing time ever. The hospitality of the staff at the lodge was excellent and heart warming. Even aspect of our visit was already anticipated and taken care of. Mr. Rabindra Nayak informed us of all the services and facilities availabe and looked after us like family. He made sure that we and all the kids in the group had everything we needed and made us feel at home. The amazing chef cooked up the best meals for us and also made special meals to cater to the kids taste.
The rooms were amazing and blended into the environment seamlessly. The sit out balconies were too cute as was the main hall with the fireplace and the grand dining room. The kids enjoyed the bicycle facilities provided by the lodge and we even went cycling around the village one morning. The kitchen garden was a treat for the kids to visit. We all enjoyed our trip immensely and made invaluable memories thanks to the warmth and kindness of the staff at kanha earth lodge and the beautiful facilities and infrastructure and design of the lodge.
The weather was amazing and cold and the safaris were delightful. The early morning campfire and breakfast were cosy and so were the limbu panis and wet napkins on our return back to the lodge.
Thanks once again. We miss being there.
Kanha is a great place to see tigers, its difficult due to the forest, but when you do its magical. This resort is well located with some fantastic knowledgable rangers. The rooms are huge but weirdly designed, we were there in winter so with small windows it felt very dark. At night it was freezing, we asked for a heater and was given a 'blow' heater which kept tripping. Going to the bathroom at night no fun, and the toilet and shower are in separate cubicles. I suspect this room would be great in the warmer months. Some design flaws such as if you lock yourself out on the balcony, there is no handle on the door to get back in, and gaps in the balcony doors letting in insects etc.
We loved the safaris, but on returning to the lodge in the evenings we would have appreciated the fire to be going and ready for us to have some drinks at the bar. Somehow, even though we requested this every night, they still didn't manage to do this. We had to wait in the freezing bar, get the fire started, and then search for some bar staff.
The meals were good, but the way they served them was straight out of bowls, so the food was often cold. There was a good variety though. One night we had dinner outside in a beautiful setting, but there were no food heaters - when we asked their reason was that due to the fact there were only a few guests they didn't bother.
I suspect the week we were there, the main GM was away, and it was left to staff to manage the place.
We have stayed at Taj Safaris, I would say this is nearly equivalent in terms of safari experience, its just the smaller lodge and room luxuries you don't get here - so if that matters to you then consider Taj/AndBeyond safaris.
We stayed in Kanha earth lodge for 2 nights and did 3 safaris (2 am & 1 pm).
I first have to start of with the safari. The safaris we did in this trip were some of the best we have had in India (1 sloth bear, 1 tiger and glimpses of 2 tigers mating). Our guides name was Harpreet Singh (happy) and he was very experienced with birds and animals. He could easily id the birds by the calls and had very sharp eyes even in the dark. If you have him, even if you don't see a tiger you will enjoy as he will show you many other birds and animals.
For the hotel itself, it was very good. The rooms were very big with a comfortable bed and warm heater. The toilets were big and well maintained and we had no problem with it. The services and food was excellent. The staff were very helpful and the food had no faults.
Location wise, the lodge is a bit far from the gate (25mins drive) but if you start early it is no big deal. The hotel is full of trees and is surrounded by farms and forest. I would recommend brining a torch to see the night birds and also roaming in and around the lodge for animals. In and around the lodge, we managed to see at least 20 species of birds including oriental scoops owl, jungle owlet, white bellied Drongo, red napped ibis and much more.
The stay was brilliant and I would highly recommend this hotel! It has to be one of pugdundees best hotels.
Awesome awesome place!!! A must go. Lovely rooms and even lovelier sit out balcony. Peace and tranquility. Soooo well maintained and excellent service. From chef to Naturalist all are super.
A little far away from the main park but it's actually nice to be that way. If you are a nature and a peace lover, this is the place to be in.
The lodge itself was well laid out, but the room lay-out was strange. The bedroom was very large and very cold and was separate from the bathroom. There is a balcony which looks out at nothing and gets no sunshine! In spite of a small heater in my room and a hot water bottle I didnt sleep a wink the first night as I was SO cold. The manager gave me extra hot water bottles and kept the heater on longer the next two nights, which helped, but if you got up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom, you nearly died of cold! Our safari drives were very cold first thing in the morning and towards the end of the evening safaris when I was there but they give you hotties to keep you warm. My naturalist [Happy] was really excellent, and you have the added bonus of him driving the car. The lodge is at least 30 minutes drive from the Park, which is not so good. I had excellent sightings of two tigers on my last drive. Wifi worked well in the lodge in and around the managers office. Food was good but not sure why they wanted to eat outside at night when it was so cold. I heard there were rats around which was slightly alarming. They need rodent repellent electric boxes there. They had a good pool there, but it needs solar heating.
