Last weekend we were there, location is good, staffs are helpful you can hear sounds of birds, monkeys and other animals.Deer's can be seen sometimes near the resort as it is near the forest. But it lacks in hospitality as no intercom, dirty bathrooms with improper fittings with inadequate lighting. food is ok. Place has security issues.just ok for a budget stay better try other options at mocha.
A good resort very near to the entrance of the National Park. Good rooms and good view from the balconies. Management and staffs are cordial and helpful and food served is of good quality and quiet reasonably priced.
My association with Kanha dates back to my childhood...Had stayed in many places in Kanha like Bison resort, MP tourism hutments etc...But Vanya is my favourite...Reason being, just adjacent to the core area, you can literally hear alarm calls sitting on your verandah....I first stayed in this property back in 2012...Since then I have fallen in love with this property...Absolutely lush property with separate two floor independent villas with HUUUGEEE british style rooms & bathrooms...When I first visited there, there were no ACs (who needs a AC in a jungle!!!!) but guys somehow tried to fit a cooler in my window which I forbade them to do....There is no intercom line, no TV, no wifi, no earthly disturbances at all....If you want to order something, you will have to walk down straight to the reception over the lawn and that during night could be a little thrilling....However, having said the pros of this property, let me state the cons:
1. Although the property is lavish, it is very very poorly managed. So, you might have to ask few times for getting your towels and soap, or you might required a little bit of extra cleaning of the rooms or might want your bedsheet changed.
2. The guys who manage this property are local youngs and they only end up doing cooking, serving everything...So don't expect a professional service! and most of the time their kitchen is out of stock! So if you need some extra helping of something....HARD LUCK!!! e.g. you will not get ice cubes for your single malt if you want to indulge after a day's safari!
3. Recently, there is a manager named PATEL....and beware of this guy...He is all up for ruining this beautiful property! He has devised a menu where you get charged INR45 for an omlette....I have warned the local guides (all of them pretty much know me) that this guy is up for fleecing tourist and soon will bring bad repute to this property
4. If you want to catch decent dinner, you will have to walk through the dark village roads beside the jungle for 10 min (I enjoy this so really not a killer for me)...and reach the Great Kamlesh da Dhaba and enjoy a sumptuous dinner cooked by Thapa
Overall, nice stay if you really want a jungle experience and not the usual hanky panky stuff with ACs, TVs, Radios and stuff.
This resort was recommended to us by our guide at Kanha and it was satisfactory on most of the points he mentioned... Close to the gate, it is suitable for those wanting to get to the park quickly and also save on additional charges that are levied for picking up clients from resorts further away.. The food was strictly ok.. A little too much oil and too little salt, but otherwise a decent variety on offer.
For the amount being charged, one would expect slightly better bathrooms.. They need a round of maintenance.. We paid for airconditioned rooms but were constantly told to switch off the ac as the generator would not be able to bear the load.. Kinda devalues the additional charges even though we were understanding of the situation on the edge of the forest...Service was tardy, but primarily as they are understaffed and there is just one guy who really does most of the running around..
What irked me the most was the additional dishes being sneaked into our orders on day 1.. Like suddenly there were 2 plates of rice instead of the one ordered.. The plate of salads being served, we later found out, were also added and charged for.. I confronted the manager about this and he admitted that they decided to add these items based on the group size and I flatly told him it was not done if he expected to be paid for these additional items.. Magically, all the additions stopped after that.. They still tried to leverage additional items (a plate of Chicken costs a whopping 500 bucks and he insisted we take 2, whereas one was sufficient for those sharing)
Decent place, but I will try another option at Kanha the next time around.
I travelled with group of friends and families to Kanha. Vanya resort is simply not a place where one would like to stay. It was booked by our agent for us. Whole place bears a deserted look and we were the only group staying there. Room are very dirty, not maintained and not cleaned even for a new guest. There is nothing in room except for bed and tv. Bathroom are very dirty and does not have proper fittings There is no provision for hot water and hotel has very erratic power back up. Manager does not have etiquette and manners to speak to guest. Only good thing is that subordinate staff is very sincere and was very cooperative, it was the only saving grace. Also the place is very close to Khatia entry gate
