I visited Kanha with my wife and son in November 2015 and stayed in Windsor Tiger Resort for 5 days and had a very pleasant stay in the resort which adds up to our very nice memories we've of Kanha and we long to go back. Windsor Tiger Resort has number of AC and Non-AC cottages which is laid out next to the Kanha National Park and gives children ample option to walk around within their property and enjoy the semi wilderness. Most of the staff of the hotel, though not very professionally trained and are locals but are very efficient and is ready to take care of the guest including preparing and packing full course breakfast for the guest going out in morning safari by 5 am in the morning, and not that their nights end quickly, as most of the guest hangs around very late in open area of the resort where the resort regularly arranges for Bonn fire and drinks (to be paid separately by guest) and even arranges for tribal dance (again to be paid separately by guest). As the resort is located within 2 mins driving distance from the Khatia gate, for queuing up for the morning safari (to get into the reserve forest), you can start from the resort by 5:30 am. The resort can also make arrangements for your visit into the National Park along with guide (requires extra pay). The food in the resort is average and can be skipped in favour of "Kamalesh Dhaba" which is a typical Indian roadside joint serving delicious hot food and is right next to the entrance of the Kanha Khatia gate. Though there are better resorts in Kanha, but for budget stay, I can recommend "Windsor Tiger Resort, Kanha".
We had planned a short 3 night stay at Windsor. The rooms are kind of small but cosy with a large Window (Does not open). The service is really poor. The location is very nice as its close to Katia Gate and in the evening you often hear alarm calls as well as the occasional Roaring of tigers. The food is also average but no complaints as they make whatever you want. There are 3 places in the resort to have a cosy bonfire get together with friends and family as well as the other guests. The manager Mr Santosh Yadav is really helpful and when he is around the service is better. In terms of arranging for the safari they can help as they have 2 jeeps of their own and are also associated with many gypsy drivers who can arrange everything for you or you can walk to the gate yourself and book your safaris on sharing of a whole jeep again depends on the availability and the mood of the forest personnel at the ticket counter. Overall it was an average experience as we went mainly for the safaris.
On our recent trip to Kanha, we happen to stay at here. The resort is very close to Khatia gate, merely 800m from the entry. Staying close to the park helps in avoiding the mad rush during the entry. We had a really comfortable stay. Each room is equipped with ac and the staff is very courteous. The management will take care of all of your park related needs like, entries, bookings etc. but its always to book your entries much in advance. They have there own gypsies that they run for safaris hence that helps and driver (Ritesh) knows the place well and can deal with the mad rush during the sightings. The resort also has internet facility, you can check with the staff. People there are very polite and courteous. Do tip the guides generously. it always helps.
