The campus is huge and beautiful. I had stayed in the cottage which is a lovely private bunglow only from the outside. Inside while the bed and other furniture is ok, the bathroom are old and horrible. It old and hasnt been done in decades. The towels were dirty and stained.
However the staff is very good and the canteen has very nice food, the canteen seemed to be run by one family who are helpful and serve well cooked nice homely meals.
Special mention of the coffee, soup and dosas which were amazing.
The check out time is 8am so a little early. One of the main highlight is the sun rise which takes place at around 6 30, the beach is quite a long walk almost 15 mins however its a private beach and pretty nice!
Overall a average stay, but the toilets needs some serious renovation.
Great serene place. We felt a night's stay was not enough to see the entire campus. The in-house restaurant was good. The private sun rise beach which is 10 mins walk from the reception was wonderful. My non AC double room was clean and neat and served our purpose. Thank you Vivekananda Kendra. It was my first visit to Kanyakumari and you made it memorable as my family members appreciated me for choosing such a great place to stay. All greenery around, being close to nature, calm and serene surroundings made it a great visit.
Rooms were good as compared with there tariffs, there is lot of greenery in the campus and that will make your day beautiful.
The beds are old fashioned.
A silent place which has there own beach which is clean and tidy.
The rooms are small, however the washrooms are big.
Every AC room is equipped with a Mosquito Net which says the area is full of Mosquitoes.
Check out the photos of the inside of the cottage
Checkin time is 08:00am and Check out is 08:00 the next day
Stayed at the cottage, you wont get a more reasonable, economical place to stay for a family. They officially accommodate 4 people but for 250rupees additional per person you can get extra beds (We were a total of 6 people). The cottage has two air-conditioned rooms, 2 baths, kitchen and a living room. They also have a TV( only local channels) functional AC, hot water throughout and lot of space and soap.
There is a small restaurant (Gowri Shankar), the restaurant staffs were exceptional and extremely patient taking into consideration of all the rude speaking visitors I had seen ordering and shouting aloud. Have uploaded the menu so that visitors can know what to expect( very reasonably priced). They open at 05:30 in the morning.
Inside the Kendra you can see the peacock sanctuary, Swami Vivekanda mandapan, Ekhnathji Ranade Samadhi and the sunrise point( in that order). One road leads to all of them, you cant get lost. You can also see the pictorial exhibit inside the campus
Just outside the campus, you have Small shops and bakeries for your water requirements
Greatly recommend staying at the cottages, they are very clean and worth the price
Nothing shanti about the accommodation here, full on noisey inconsiderate families who the centres 'quiet times' do not apply too. Western seekers do not go without highest rating db earplugs.
Rooms noisy, good, basic, clean and ok, mattresses good.
The grounds are ok, aspirations of the centre's founders good too, but...........it's definitely NOT an ashram in the true sense of spiritual seeking. It's tourist attraction accommodation.
No meditation programmes on offer, go with your own practice............you'll need it. Maybe that's it with this place, it will certainly test the effects of your practice..........
