An Unexpectedly Beautiful and Tranquil Resort in Karakudi An Unexpectedly Beautiful and Tranquil Resort in Karakudi

by Sumita62 on November 23, 2017

I was pleasantly surprised to find such a beautiful and artistically done up resort in the sleepy, small town of Karaikudi. The rooms are cottage style, huge, not luxuriously done up, but very charming with period furniture and flooring with local handmade tiles. The air conditioner was very effective and there was tea-coffee making provision in the room, although morning tea is served to the rooms. The bathroom is large and clean, but basic. Take your own moisturizer and shower gel - the herbal bath soap provided has a strong aroma which everyone may not like. There is no bathtub. The sit-out outside the room is lovely for morning tea and evening coffee. Watch out for mosquitoes though. The reception area is impressive with a huge chess board and interesting sculptures. Although a router was provided when requested, wifi connection was not available. However, it is unfair to expect good internet connectivity at such a remote location. Instead just enjoy the ambience and tranquility of the resort. The staff need more training to reach the professional level of city hotels, but they make up with their sincerity and eagerness to meet all your needs. Dinner at the Bojan Restaurant was excellent, particularly the local dishes like Chicken Chetinad, vegetables and sweet dishes. The breakfast options are Continental and South Indian. I had opted for the South Indian which comprised of freshly made dosa and idlys, with delicious sambhar and chutneys, upma, rava pongal and freshly squeezed orange juice, as well as coffee. Quite a feast!

Cottage style hotel Cottage style hotel

I stayed in this hotel on 3rd September and checked out on 4th September. All are cottages. This property is located in Ariyakudi village a little far away from Karaikudi town and thus insulated from the noise and dust normally found in such towns. Rooms are very spacious and flooring was unique with Athangudi tiles (locally made in Chettinad area). Bathrooms were modern and clean. However water was very hard. Management should consider installing a water softener. They claim that they provide free wifi. During my stay internet was not working. They were citing reasons like router malfunctioning, lightening struck wifi tower etc! Front office staff were not adequately trained to handle guests. They were very reluctant to smile and not so welcoming attitude. Checkout procedure was very disappointing. The front office staff was struggling to get the work done due to some glitch in their computer system. The owner of the hotel Mr Narayanan himself was trying to resolve but could not succeed. Finally the staff printed the bill in which my name was wrongly mentioned which I pointed out. Then he took some more time to print the corrected bill. Staff need lot of training in customer service and their personal grooming and skill development to impress the guests with efficient working. I observed that the owner resides adjacent to the property and still many vital issues seem to be not properly addressed and corrected.

A mini resort with comfortable cottages. A bit off from the main town. The restaurant serves delicious chettinadu cuisine along with other normal stuffs. A place you can relax if you want to enjoy solitude and peace. Don't expect much wifi coverage to connect outer world.

Wonderful traditional food/warm and friendly owner-managers.. Wonderful traditional food/warm and friendly owner-managers..

Absolutely traditional Chettinad style meals and hospitality. Missed the gym but enjoyed my jog in the campus. Owners were friendly and supportive. A nice boutique hotel that is excellent value for money...

The resort has an impressive lounge area with Chettinadu style roof and tiles. Rooms are large cottage style with the traditional tiles pattern. The bathrooms are clean and (surprisingly nice) modern feel. I love the bathroom The breakfast was very simple. They gave you 2 options : western or south Indian style. In 3 days we stayed there, we ordered western style. They gave you toast with butter and jam, omelette and tea/coffee. I really like their toast. The crispiness was right on point. The wifi was working but very slow. Overall...it's a good place to relax

Demo Trip All rooms are like cottages arranged in a way one can see in Tamilnadu in a typical street with enough space between ottages. So you can choose any your room from the row.
