Stayed here for 3 nights. Great location, right next to the backwaters and a boat ride from the beach. My package included food, which was sumptuous- Kerala style! I went alone, but lot of families too were staying there. The room is fairly basic, but clean and maintained. I stayed in a cottage on silts. There is a small pool and a pond for rowing a canoe. Overall, a good place to chill out and do nothing.
Owner/manager is really good. He will take care of everything. Fantastic food options. Cottages are clean. This place offers various activities as well. Big group will enjoy more.
I forgot the special sweet dish name that they had served in breakfast with coconut milk, that was awesome.
Friendly owner, best service, food to hog on, traditional Kerala delights, greenery, backwaters, cottage, awesome nature, beautiful cottages, surprising washrooms, refreshing welcome drink, fabulous cooks, organic food, local fresh food, seafood paradise, ferry, sunset to the beach. Must visit!!
Very good location. Best varieties of pure veg food enjoyed very cooperative and caring staff. Must visit if going to north Kerala. Floating cottage is very nice. Enjoyed boating.
If get chance will definitely visit again
This is a great place for a holiday.
Our cottage was a few feet from the water. There were easy chairs and a hammock, just outside, to laze and take in the view. The coconut trees leaning towards the water were a pretty sight. A high walled bathroom, open to the sky, was a nice touch.
Oyster Opera offered wonderful experiences that made for a super holiday Lazing on the hammock while absorbing beautiful views, bathing in the middle of the backwaters, canoeing in the pond, boat rides to beaches and an estuary. Little interactions with locals, especially fishermen in boats passing by, made our experience richer. One can sight many types of birds during boat rides and on the resort.
Meal times always involved an elaborate spread. The resort offers buffets for breakfast and dinner. Lunch was served on a banana leaf. Lunch and dinner are a seafood lover`s delight, although meats are also available. Being a vegetarian, I did not sample all that was on offer. Veg food, especially breakfast, was good.
The resort offers outdoor activities Volleyball, basketball, badminton, cricket etc. There is also a swing that`s popular with children. My family and I jogged to the next island, connected by a small bridge, one morning. The end of the next island was only a little over a mile away, one way, and the sights and sounds of everyday life were interesting.
The staff (Ganeshan, Dineshan, Balan, Tahir and others who worked quietly behind the scenes) were friendly and made us very comfortable. Gul Mohammed, the owner, takes a personal interest in running the resort. It was interesting to listen to the national award winner who pioneered mussel farming in India and created the wonderful resort.
The absence of television, except for a common one in the dining area, offers all the time to experience the resort`s beauty and serenity. Wi-Fi signals were good only in some parts of the resort, just what one needs to occasionally mail wonderful pictures of the holiday to near and dear ones.
I would recommend a minimum of 2 nights at Oyster Opera Island to make the most of your god-given holiday.
