Oyster Opera is in a beautiful location on the banks of the backwaters. Our cottage Oyster had a good position but needed updating, initially we were not given the control for the air conditioning but when requested it was given, it only worked spasmodically and when it did the unit leaked copions amounts of water onto the floor. The shower is outside and cold water only but there is an adjacent tap that has hot water.
The boat trips each evening were excellent, the food was generally very good and some dishes were excellent. We used the kayak to explore the backwaters but it was not in a good condition, nor were the paddles. A lot of the niggles could have been overlooked but on our second night a group of about 30 young men were booked into the resort expecting a party weekend, the loud music was quickly stopped but dinner was not a quiet and relaxing occasion nor did we enjoy the warm beer as they ran out of cold.
We stayed for a day at oyster opera and loved it.they ensure safety for women, staff is friendly and ready to help with anything you need.we had breakfast on arrival which was not charged.they have activities like canoeing ,swimming in the backwaters etc.the place has a place for shuttle, some swings.lunch was rich and exquisite , we had all prawns oyster fish among other delicasies.evening there was a boat trip to the beach near by.the beach water was clean and not much of crowd.it was an amazing experience to sit and watch the sunset.dinner was equally good with barbeque. all in all oyster opera was a wonderful experience.
At first sight this resort seemed a little bit worn out. And it was.... BUT, we grew to love it the 4 nights we stayed here. I think our hut (Oyster) was the smallest, but it was by far the best located - in our opinion. When we were sitting out on our terrace, we coldnt see any other huts nor people. We fully could enjoy the backwater, views, fishermen, birds og beautiful sunsets. This was very relaxing..........
The food was very good, and the staff was very, very kind and helpful in any way.
The wi-fi was really pour. We had to go to the main entrance to get the signal. The staff promised that they were working on this problem......
The motorboat afternoon trip in the surrounding bachwaters was a great experience.
The area around Oyster didnt offer much to see. We were lucky to be invited to a local wedding at a nearby neighbour.
We did enjoy our stay here, but they have to step up a Little bit.
All my love to the staff!!!!!!
Oyster Opera is a medium sized resort well off the beaten track but by no means difficult to access. We arrived and met the charming Gul and his excellent team and were quickly in our very well-appointed room. The rooms are varied and it is hard to know what each one was like but we had the elevated cottage which gave us great views. The food is simply the best we have had in India. Lunches in particular are extraordinary. Many different vegetables, fish and seafood and all very generously given. Breakfast too was good and so much so that the dinner barbecue was hard to fit in. They organised trips into the back waters for swimming and to the beach and at every turn the attitude was 'how can we help' and 'everything is possible'. Ganesh the manager was wonderful, a really lovely accommodating professional. (I even left my sunglasses in a taxi they had organised when I left and they very kindly recovered them for me). Other staff too were great and appeared relaxed and well looked after which is vital for a peaceful stay. We also met some great Indian guests who just treated us with kindness and interest. It isn't cheap by Indian standards but given the food and facilities it is value for money and we would warmly recommend.
This is a place where you can just relax and do nothing. It has all the elements of a great nature holiday bundled within it's premises. Backwater, picturesque cottages, hammocks, green lawn, children play area, beach tour, swimming in the backwaters, open air shower, birds, insects and what not...
Accommodation: 4/5 Basic clean cottages
Location: 5/5 Better than bests... it was a such a serene one being next to the backwaters. We sometimes felt we were in an island.
Food: 5/5 or anything more than that. Awesome sumptuous Kerala spread. Starting from breakfast to lunch till dinner, we have not been pampered so much even in 5 star hotels.. Breakfast had a wonderful sponge like dosa roll on which you have to pour coconut milk. It will double in size almost and melt in the mouth. That thing was truly drooling! Lunch was served in banana leaves and it was a Sadhya. It included Fish fry, prawns, squids, chicken, kerala special Tapioca and fish curry and what not. Dinner had crabs, fish, chicken and mutton apart from other vegetables.
Service: 3/5 The manager Mr Ganesh was little slow when it came to service. He also lacked bit of common sense and attention. He had charged us for the lunch which we did not avail but Mr Gul Mohammed was very prompt in getting a cheque to us when we highlighted the facts to him. We had also left few Tupperware boxes in the resort which Mr Gul was kind enough to send through another guest who handed over to me in Bangalore.
Activities: 5/5 The rating of 5 is with respect to the activities available in Kasargod.
Visit to a pristine beach, so pristine it felt like a private beach. Swimming in the shallow backwaters, kayaking and coracle in the small natural lake, fishing, visit to mussel farming, TT, badminton and the best one was the hammock in front of each cottage.
Mr Gul is really maintaining his place very well. Kudos to him.
If you want to unwind and rediscover yourself, this is the place.
