They could write on their entrance -"Foreigners Only" - that would at least give the Indian guests a reason not to book the hotel. One could easily make out the service and housekeeping differences between an Indian and a foreigner guest. The towels and blankets given to us were pathetic with holes in them like the ones the street beggars use. The owner is a clever businessman with a huge clientele of foreign guests whom they cater to and not bother about the rest. All-in-all, we found out that there could be better options for us to stay in Khajuraho.

My wife and I are experienced travelers. We have visited many countries and like to stay in non-western hotels. Our only real concern is that the place is relatively clean. The Zen hotel is not clean. We looked at several rooms and all looked like they had not been cleaned in years. The sheets were dirty and the bathrooms were very unclean with bacterial growth everywhere. Normally, we would suck it up for one night, but we were afraid of catching something and left for another hotel after a few hours. The location is great and the grounds are very nice, but the place was just too unclean for us. There were also stagnant ponds of water which are good mosquito breeding grounds. This could be a really nice place IF it was maintained.
Location was excellent and staff were very friendly - they invited us for a free dinner on Ganesh's birthday. The rooms were big and spacious with comfortable beds.. good wifi and lovely garden. Unfortunately I was extremely ill while staying here but the staff were accommodating and caring, they let us check out much later than planned for a small charge. 100% recommend!
Wow, what a beautiful guesthouse, the colours, the garden, the lotus flowers. While I was there, they were still working frantically to make the place even more beautiful. What was extremely nice is that everybody in this guesthouse is very friendly and also the work is shared between the guesthouse staff, you can ask anybody anything and they will arrange it. This is hospitality. This is what makes me feel at home at a place and that feeling, that is priceless!
Clean, decent rooms with big windows, nice arrangement (could be better maintained), honest staff (we booked 2 nights originally because we wanted to check in early but stayed only one night - they didn't charge us for the second night we booked) On the minus: rikshaw drivers were allowed to go in to the hotel - the least what you want at 5 am is being questioned if do you want a day tour etc (btw. you really can do Khajuraho in 1 day without taking a tuk tuk). Driver we booked at the hotel to take us to the train station was late 15 minutes, took a friend with him and tried to take another 4 people in the same tuk tuk!!! (we had to shout and tell him we're not paying and taking another rikshaw instead) - very unprofessional
Hotel Zen is a lovely respite in the heart of Khajuraho. Comfortable rooms, good food, peaceful environment---what more could you want? I was fortunate to have a massage on-site and it was the best I'd ever experienced. I've stayed here before and will definitely stay here again!
