I don't understand the Indian road builders. Between Jhansi and Khajuraho the road is completely broken up in countless places and you have to find your way between the busy traffic and deep potholes. Almost nowhere people are working, so I suppose it will take a long time before the new road is finished. Anyway, after that terrible ride we were happy to see the hotel. Unfortunately that was also the only time we were really happy with this hotel. When you enter the domain it all looks nice and clean. The buildings look western, have only one floor and are surrounded by greenery. However, unlike all the other hotels on our tour, there was no one here to help us with our bags. That was not so bad, but still a big difference with the sometimes exaggerated helpfulness in other hotels and was done quickly with the help of our driver. As soon as we were at the reception, the reception clerk went looking for someone to deliver us a drink and to drag our suitcases upstairs. The lobby has potential but the beautiful marble floor was not nicely polished like elsewhere. It was even a bit dirty and dusty. The chairs had multiple stains. Not all lamps were working and some were even missing. Pieces of the stairs were broken at some places, the net of the ping-pong table at the top of the stairs was broken and a dirty trail was visible in the hallway to our room. The whole felt a bit deserted. The room was spacious but very minimalist decorated, the sheets had a stain on them and the laminate for the bathroom door had come off due to the moisture. The pool in the courtyard was a real eye-catcher, but the gym was nothing. The furniture in the restaurant was of a lower quality and showed many traces of wear and damage because the veneer at the corners had disappeared or started to come off. There was hardly any decoration. The buffet breakfast was not very extensive. The two days we were there we were always alone. We only had dinner once in their restaurant. The food was good but much too expensive. Here too we experienced the same malaise: friendly but not very motivated. There was little enthusiasm throughout the hotel, rather resignation. That may have been due to the many cancellations due to the corona crisis and uncertainty about the future. Who can tell, but unfortunately this was by far the least hotel on our tour.
