Dheeraj from Kodaikanal, India recommends this hotel Posted:  Room Quality: 4/5 Service Quality: 3/5 Dining Quality: 3/5 Cleanliness: 3/5

Location: The property is spread over a few acres, and is a beautiful location although it does not provide a spectacular view. The location by itself is great - in a small valley with a small stream running through it and a small pasture where a few cows can be seen grazing. During our stay, we spotted a wild boar that had come wandering by. Also, one just has to open the window to see a variety of bird life in the early hours of the day. The property is located around 3 kms from the pillar rocks and about a kilometre from the Green Valley view. We walked down to the pillar rocks, Green Valley and Guna Caves from the hotel. Since this is located away from the town, it may turn out to be a pain if you do not have your own transport. Also, note that the nearest ATM is 3KMS away. The resort does offer a shuttle service, but is not run on schedule (there were 3 trips to and fro as I recollect). Rooms: There are 2 types - Stream side cottages that overlook the stream, although during summer one cannot really see the stream since it is a trickle. However the provide a good green view of the bushes around the stream. The rooms are housed in a cottage (2 rooms with each room having an independent sitout) - Deluxe rooms - These are almost identical to the stream side cottages, but are slightly away from the stream. Parking is available nearby the cottages (open air, on the approach paths to the cottages). This was convenient. We had taken a stream side cottage, they were really spacious. There was a sofa with coffee table in the sitout. A double bed and a sofa cum bed in the room, with some additonal blankets and pillows. The bathrooms have geysers that we need to turn on. We did not experience any inconvenience due to power cuts since they have backup generators. However, during our stay, the telephones were not functional. Service: This was really a sore point during the stay. Room cleaning is not done on a daily basis; we had to request them multiple times to clean the rooms. On the third day, the guys at the reception actually asked us why room cleaning had to be done since the room was cleaned the previous day! Also, we had to separately ask for replacement of towels. The staff expects tips every time they drop by, and they come in groups and expect each to be individually tipped. Their shuttle service does not always run - we went to the town and when I called the hotel to confirm the pickup time I was told to catch a cab! Although once I demanded to know why they have advertised the same, they did arrange for the shuttle. Food: The resort packages breakfast and dinner with the room cost itself (no option to opt out), however, the dinners were passable while breakfast was good. Lunch has to be ordered beforehand and this was not good, avoid if possible. Try to have lunch in the town if possible. Summary: This is a great location for an idyllic holiday. Stream side cottages are the best. But note that it best if you have your own transport, and if you are on your own transport take note that the golf link road is made one way during peak tourist hours, to avoid traffic snarls.

Get the basics right! Get the basics right!

I'm no stranger to hotels, and as a part of my review, I'll touch upon the basic requirements for any hotel in any class: 1. Ambience: 3.5/5. The room is fairly large and comfortable, but it's the lighting that can use a little refreshing touches. Like a warm light just before sleeping and a bright light in the evenings, which can be done with existing lighting. While talking about lighting, I'd like to mention that there was only one power plug point working at times even when the whole property had power. The electrician came 3 times, and the first time he left a very cumbersome old multi switch box (again only one point was working). The second time he changed the socket location, and the third time he ACTUALLY solved the main issue which turned out to be poor wall socket contacts. He could have been tutored to solve this issue in the first place thereby saving us the trouble of calling the reception desk for him multiple times. Plus, we had informed them 4 hours in advance that we would be arriving at 1330 hours; a basic check to ensure that the room was ready the moment we arrived (toiletries in place, sockets checked, heater working, TV on with a button click) would have done wonders. 2. Sanitation: 4/5. Washrooms were clean, which is a minimum requirement for me and I was happy with it. On the first afternoon, the room cleaning was not done even after we had informed the reception before going out in the morning. This led to an hour's delay as we sat around waiting for the cleaning staff to turn up. When the room was tidied up, the job was done well so happy with that. 3. Food: 4.5/5. Food quality and quantity were good. One thing I'd like to improve is that the Sambhar during breakfast is kept in a huge covered vessel and quickly got cold and thick in the winter morning. If they can use a burner (there's a provision) to keep it hot, they can reduce food wastage as well. 4. Service: 3/5. You have a vast property in a good location, but if you can't maintain them with good service, you won't attract many visitors. The checkin was smooth, but as already pointed out, could have been better by sending a crew to ready a room (I'd imagine would take 10-15 minutes to do it). Ensuring that the rooms are clean before guests return (who is going out, who is coming back when, making a schedule for the cleaning staff) are small things that can turn customer satisfaction into delight. We ordered some food items one afternoon, and we were told it would take 20 minutes. The food came after 50 minutes. Telling us that the food would take about 45 minutes in the first place and explaining that the kitchen usually doesn't cook much in the afternoon would have helped more than a repeated "It's coming sir, 2 minutes" excuse. There are other factors that the hotel can't change, for example, the road leading to the hotel is a one way and sometimes there's no power in the mornings. We really didn't face much issues due to these, but it's how the hotel handles these factors that would be a key factor in deciding if I'd stay here again. Overall I'm satisfied, but could have been much better, if they got the basics right.

Excellent Property and unforgettable Stay Excellent Property and unforgettable Stay

This is one of the best property i had ever visited, and very well suited for Family travelers. starting from Check in to service , the managers and service boys facilitated us very well, without any issues . Below are few points to be noted for this property : 1). This resort is around 7 kms away from main city, situated in a very peaceful place surrounded by hills and orchard . It's has a lot of open space with children park area, and it has a stream of river flowing across this resort. you can even walk around the resort and feel the cool and calmness of nature. They organise Bon fire with music on demand or complimentary. 2). 5 star for their service and their Food. The head chef is the owner of this property and he makes sure that guest gets their desired choice and taste of food. Their food is very delicious and tasty. 3). Go for the river-stream side rooms. Rooms are very spacious , neat and clean and Bed is comfortable. Believe me, if you want a peaceful and memorable stay in kodaikenal, then visit this resort once. ya..they can reduce the prices for Bon fire-on demand. i found the price a bit at higher side. Rest i was well satisfied with their service and resort.

We were group of four and visited Kodaikanal for the friends wedding reception, the manager of the hotel had given us all the facilities and made sure that we are having our stay comfortably. There were many recreational facilities and which we loved the most to do. I would say in short Holiday home resort is the home away home. i would like to thank all the staffs, who had really taken a good care of us and extend all the courtesy to make our stay extraordinarily fabulous.

Not at all a good place for singles. Not at all a good place for singles.

Location was awesome, service was average. they made us wait for more than an hour after we arrived to get us our room. Morning and evening are amazing in this location, you will love the way clouds come and go across the whole region. This place, though has a al'a carte menu, they refuse to serve it, only option available will be the buffet which is not very good.
