our first choice of guesthouse had no vacancies early in the am when we arrived.. we found this guesthouse on the same road. the staff I met , two were very friendly and helpful , the other one ,,, not at all, quite rude ! we were shown one room,, which was okay,,, but as the cleaning lady came I saw a better room with a large window and we were given this better room for the same price. the room was okay, though fixtures, fittings were old and in need of some repair . the main point is we had a good nights sleep here. there is wifi in reception only and free drinking water in reception also. we had warm blankets on the bed and it was cozy. if you come here,, negotiate the price, because at the start I was told a higher rate for the room... I brought the rate room down by 200rs ! there is hot water only in the morning.

Very disappointing stay in strawberry park hotel on my last visit with my family. Staff attitude was so poor that you cant even imagine. They need know first how behave with the guest, you asked anything twice they got angry. i will never go back to this hotel again for sure.

Poor experience, but the guts can we worked on to make this place a good place to stay. Focus needs to be on beds first, moving on from there. Much can be excused in a hotel if the client gets a good night rest. There are just too many obstacles to that here. Our experience was similar to most: offered a cheap room at bus stop (500Rp/night), told there was hot water,... Hotel was found wanting on everything but the cheap price. Linens looked clean but you could feel some dirt once you moved your hand through them. Bed spread looked nice (classic woodsy plaid heavy weight stuff) but smelled (moss?). Floors were dirty - you just did not want to walk around barely or in socks. 'Hot' water was only available from 6am to 10am supposedly. To get the water hot on the 3rd floor, we had to run the water for min 15mins. Once running, we could not stop the water until we both showered.. or it would take another 15 mins to barely get luke warm... I did notice the water truck arriving every day and filling a water tank on the roof. So, I presume hot water is limited to the tank size and better on the first floor close to the lobby where the staff hangs out all day. We had to fight to get towels after being promised then (every 2 hours the time changed until at 6pm they said towels would arrive the next morning.. and the next morning the staff said there were no towels again...). On the good side, they never offered WIFI service despite a WIFI router being obviously around in the lobby. Building is old-style concrete and stone. For best standard phone coverage, you need to head up to the main lobby. Note on cold: if the rooms are not insulated, the bathroom should be sealed with plastic in the winter months to retain the heat. Note of staff: it is family run we believe, so staff sleep in the lobby overnight (so might not be best to wake them overnight :). Note on hotel: It is the Strawberry Park Hotel, but the bed linens proudly pronounce the name of another hotel. Not sure if they are associated, but makes this hotel really look cheap. Here's how I summarized this one to friends and family: Strawberry Park Hotel A 1970's Brooklyn apartment building. Not the white washed Co-op city fortresses, but the drab barely lit beige marble montrocities off Eastern parkway in which street noise would make its way through the front door, 40 feet into the stairway, up 4 floors, and make a left turn into Grandma's living room... through the beaded curtain. And Kodaikanal is not NY. Even though we might have had to sleep 5 in a bed back in the day, a couple of nights in this hotel make me long for those 'comfy' nights in Brooklyn where we had to sleep 5 to the bed. One thing Grandma had right: the mattress was comfy unlike the bed sheet covered cardboard like layers placed on the wooden box which this hotel calls a bed. After 3 nights I have successfully increased the room temperature and diminished its moisture with my body. We probably had as rocky a start as possible with the staff trying to obtain towels and extra blankets. Curt nods and glances being cast on both sides. However, as the days ticked by a general thaw occurred and by the time we left on a sunny christmas morning the staff were all smiles and waving goodbye in the cheeri indian fashion. A Merry Christmas was warmly taken. Assuming the family run business is serious about improving for the long term, it should be on your spot check based on cheap rates, location, and reasonably hot showers - time of day dependent. Note: a bit run down as seen by the rusted bathroom tiles, and bathroom does have exposed hole to outdoors.

Don't ever prefer this hotel. There are tons of cons in their Hospitality. They talk so rough. They literally throw our luggage on the reception. There is no privacy of your own. They can enter in your room with another key. When u ask about it they will give lame excuse about checkout time. And worst thing is they don't provide hot water. U hav to beg them for hot water. If u want a worst Experience in kodaikanal get in this hotel

Service is very bad. 1.-First of all manager is rude and having bad behavior. 2. -they said they will provide hot water ,but there was no hot water 3.- No privacy, they can check your room while you are outside 4. - they can throw your things if you are late for check out 5.- broker and travel agent are associated with hotel and they will force you to take the package. I'LL SUGGESTE YOU TO SELECTE HOTEL CAREFULLY . DON'T BELIEVE ANY BROKER OR OTHERS
