I stayed, with my family, in the hotel in the last few days of December 2016. Excellent is what I would call this hotel, in terms of staff, service, food, rooms, location and amenities.
I have no complaints about this hotel. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to stay in the heart of the city, at walking distance of New Market, Esplanade, Park Street, Victoria (2 KMs), St. Paul's Cathedral etc.
The staff was very courteous and service was very quick. The front desk is managed by excellent management trainees, who always have an answer to every question, with a smile.
I would specially thank the owner for bringing such hospitality to my city, even though they are not Bengalis by birth!
Good Job Dee Empressa management. I would stay here every time I visit.
The hotel has updated interiors, well serviced but small restaurant. Location is fairly central with few sightseeing spots nearby.
The rooms are poorly maintained with noisy exhaust fans, loose electrical fittings and smelly ans poorly ventilated bedrooms.
Good for an overnight/transit stay, but I would not recommend for those who need a good nights rest.
Not a good one... Rooms are congested.... But clean... Staffs are friendly and co-operative...... In toilet there is no exhaust system......... Close to new market area.... 10 mins walk.......... Food is good......
One thing i would suggest that this there is a service booth for Uber taxi service... I would highly recommended for that service from the hotel.... Because from hotel to Kolkata Railway station, chitpur fare showed 197 to 235 rupees but when i avail that service for 3 cab, bill were likes 410 for one car, 455 for 2nd car and 560 rupees for 3rd one car which totally one kind of fraud activities doing by Uber and that hotel in Kolkata..... Highly recommending not to use that service........ not such traffic at that time....... When i asked hotel to provide the bill voucher they told me that they will send it over mail........... but no mail....... Second time i used the same hotel as it was in a package and i used taxi in contract fare and they charge 300 rupees for the same place drop....
Housekeeping is good. Still renovating that's why bit noisy. Lift is small. Not too much choice in breakfast they left the bread open so it gets dry and hard. Location wise I would say good budget hotel.
A small Business Hotel tucked away on Kyd St - I didn't know it existed till someone recommended their Cafe/Restaurant. Off we went to check it out last week and though the exterior was hardly impressive, the little restaurant was cute and served us a lovely meal!
We had a fragrant & flavourful Tom Kha - an Indonesian (?) coconut based soup
Followed by a Sushi platter with Salmon, Crab & Chicken mouthfuls which was declared 'very good' by my daughter;
A Vietnamese 'Crunchy Vegetable in a Rice paper Wrap' was just passable, and could leave out the raw onions next time;
A Wonderful piquant sauce with lovely Bok Choy wrapped Chicken Dumplings were truly satisfying.
However, I save the best for the end ~ we ordered a subtly flavoured Wasabi Ice Cream which was just right. (in my experience Wasabi can be overpowering.)
and, wait for it.......
A Fabulous De-Constructed Lemon Cheesecake - this was outstanding to say the least! I have stopped having Cheesecake after the heavy, creamy cheesecakes most places serve - this one revived my faith in Cheesecake - it was light, delicious and just crumbly enough to go back to, again and again!
Do try it out!
