Getting there: After arriving at kolkata, took a prepaid taxi (Rs 100) from howrah station to esplanade area. Gave the hotel location address to the driver but he was not aware of it. We asked a few people after reaching esplanade area but they also did not had any idea. Then I connected to the hotel staff and he provided directions to the driver. The hotel surrounding: The hotel is off the main road and in a shabby street. If you are with your family, as I was, you are bound to be worried with the environment and surrounding. Not sure why this hotel has such good reviews. The hotel: The hotel in the 2nd floor and there is a strange looking elevator that you have to be on to get into the hotel. The elevator can anytime break down. The reception had the manager named Aftab, who is a good guy and provides answers to your queries. The room: But the room had lot to desire of. It was small and had a balcony looking into the street. The bathroom was decent but the biggest worry is the amount of noise that your get in the night. The kind of people making noise in the night will ensure you have sleepless nights. Good things: The chandni chowk metro is nearby and there is a good veggie restaurant named 'Anand' where in you could savor some south indian food. The breakfast: The morning breakfast is complimentary where in you can either opt for bread omelette or puri bhajji. But not of the best quality. Overall Experience: All in all not a good experience.

Believe I had a hard time finding this hotel in Chandni Chowk Calcutta, but it was a good stay close to the main road and 4 kms from Park Street. The hotel lobby looks like a place for boarders / backpackers and I didnt expect much when i walked in and the reception place is really small. All said and done, I got a nice double bed ac room with functioning cable , ac, wifi and the room was clean and thats what i wanted. However the overall feel of the hotel is of the ultra budget type but its worth the price point. I am not too sure about room service as I just stayed a night but they get food and all to your room. Chandni Chowk is a crowded market place and food joints are all around with the famous Amenia biryani restaurant just below the hotel which is on the 2nd floor. All in all a nice budget place more suited for solo guys like me or 2 travellers, however I am not too sure if this is the place for large families. One thing for sure is that the hotel has to improve the inner lighting of the rooms as it looks very dull. The good thing is that they have a nice balcony for outside viewing of the street.

2 days in Kolkata 2 days in Kolkata

At the end of our first month in India we stayed 2 nights here in one of their "exec suites". We've been staying in mid-range locally owned hotels and this was our least favourite. I don't think there are many tourist options in Kolkata but the Eslanade is tired, worn and grimy; with poor service.

Pathetic Booking Service Pathetic Booking Service

I booked this hotel for my short trip to Kolkata. I booked by calling their number and informed them that i will be coming early morning around 5 to 5.30 AM. The person confirmed the booking. The day I reached all issues started. It took some time to get to the place. When I went to the reception he bluntly said no rooms booked under my name. They did not give any reservation number so i can't argue as well. He asked me to go out and locked the door. This is pathetic service. I suggest everyone to get a confirmation number or call multiple times that they have not erased the reservation.

Budget hotel, best for an overnight stay. Budget hotel, best for an overnight stay.

We (sister and I) stayed at the Hotel Esplanade Chambers for one night, as I arrived from my international flight into Kolkata. Reading previous reviews, I didn't have great expectations as many noted the hotel was quite low budget, ideal for a quick overnight and location was ideal. Finding the place was quite tricky, and this was probably partially due to our taxi driver who had troubles with his maps and speaking English, as it took over 1 hour for him to find the place! Service is average, with very minimal clear instructions or communication during check -in; the room isn't the flashiest but does the job for the purpose of having a place to sleep. I wouldn't be quick to recommend to others, but if you're looking for a cheap place to stay thats in prime location; this place would be a good pick. Tip: We got a taxi through the pre-paid taxi service at the airport; shouldn't cost you more than 200 rupees.

Budget Hotel and suited our purpose Budget Hotel and suited our purpose

This is a budget hotel in the middle of Kolkata. It was fine, beds were ok, rooms ok bathroom ok. Location was great. Breakfast was fine. Maybe a bit of a clean every now and then would be a good idea but it suited our purpose, we were out all day and night and only came back for a sleep. If this is what you want then it is fine, if you want 5 star then look elsewhere.

Demo Trip Rooms with the balcony are more subject to street sounds, but the activities on the street are so intriguing that its almost worth it. For longer stays, choose a room that doesn't face the street.
