The property has two wings and one of the wing, the annex is newly built structure. It is equipped with all the amenities. The interior of the rooms is very good. However I have not used the Hotel for food but I heard that the food is also good here. I had breakfast at hotel and they offer quite a range for vegetarian options.
The location of this hotel is excellent. It is very convenient to reach any part of the city.
Stayed four nights in Jan 17. Regretted it from the moment I entered. Staff has terrible attitude, esp at management/senior level. A general feeling of neglect pervades the hotel. Rooms are worn down and smelly. The complimentary breakfast buffet should be missed as I found it uniformly dull and tasteless.
This review is for my stay at Peerless Inn last one week. I am told it is a 4star hotel.
There should be few basic parameters I believe for hotels to be analyzed.
Location, airport proximity, staff attitude, room cleanliness, gallery cleanliness, amenities in room, other basic amenities, restaurant ambience, choice in food, quality , restaurant staff efficiency and attitude.
I analyzed Peerless Inn using above parameters and my experience is as under
Location : Prime location, very happening place. Its at walking distance from many tourist spot. Public conveyance is available nearly 24x7.
Airport proximity : It took me around 60 min to reach the hotel from airport. But it depends upon traffic. In Kolkata traffic is challenge always like any other metro.
Staff attitude : When I reached the reception two very friendly ladies (trainee) greeted me and started the check-in processing. They faced some technical issue so asked help from a regular staff of reception (a smart looking man), but to my surprise even seeing the guest in front of counter he talked very rudely with the ladies in local language (which I fortunately)understand. After that some how they completed my check-in and helped me and my colleague to our respective rooms.
The same fellow was arguing with another senior staff at a high pitch of voice when I was checking out. It shows how much they are really courteous.I never come across such person at any reception of 4 star hotels. (he should be either warned or changed in better interest of hotel)
Room cleanliness and amenities in room: very nicely cleaned room, reasonable in size having coffee maker, bath robe, a small fridge (empty) , a LED tv with dish, two bottle of water, centralize AC, restroom was having a hair dryer only, no soap, no tooth brush, no paste, no shampoo, no conditioner only liquid soap. No slippers in the room.
Gallery Cleanliness : Having a smell due to old carpet of the gallery. Not upto the mark.
Other basic amenities : Wifi yes bur gym and pool couldnt see.
Restaurant ambience : Beautiful restaurant good range of choices in terms of breakfast and dinner. Staff was very cordial, staff efficiency and attitude was also good but there I observed a disconnect among the staff. The senior ones ware having a lot of complacency on their face and not treating well the juniors due to which I felt that they were not enjoying their job.
Room service staff : Very courtesies but dull, sad looking.
Analysis : Hotel industry is a service oriented business. Good service depends on the staff and their motivation level. I felt the old staff of Peerless Inn has taken their job as permanent and developed lot of complacency in their behavior. New lot (mostly trainees ) working under pressure and must be getting very nominal remuneration, just to complete their training might be. Just to quote , when I stayed in a small hotel in New York the room service staff if they happen to cross you in the gallery, just greet you with the smiling face. However, here when first two days I saw them so dull I sported a smile to a room service staff with a request to clean my room. But that too couldn't change the expression.
I feel the Hotel is very good in various parameters but the HR is not keeping the staff motivated and properly remunerated as per industry standards. I doubt they are following Govt wages norms. Hotel will die if HR of PR is not done. Management to step in and re engineer complete bad staff.
Would love to stay again in the hotel subjected to get real good services from happy staff.
I have stayed at this hotel two times and have had a brilliant stay in both the occasion. The staffs at reception are unfailing friendly and courteous. The rooms in there annex building are better off. Food were all very tasty. Great shopping places around . I liked their cutting chai along with fruit cake are served to while we were checking in. Loved it all and return for sure.
I stayed at this hotel for one night. I booked a suite and arrived at the hotel around 9:00 PM. Here is my experience.
- I was allocated a suite after waiting 40 minutes. It was extremely smelly and very worn down. I refused to take it.
- At this point, restaurants were near closing time. I went to have my dinner and when I came back, I was provided a better condition double room in the new tower. Given my choices, I accepted it. In effect, I was downgraded even if I paid for the suite.
- In the new tower, hotel issues only one room key. Since room key is required to operate the elevator as well as room lights, everyone in the room have to go out at the same time. This was a problem since we were three people.
- The shower place inside the bathroom became a large puddle of water every time someone took a shower. Water was also leaking out of the shower to the main bathroom.
- We sensed stale food in their restaurants. We fell sick on the next day in the aircraft while traveling back to US.
- The bell boy/door men/service people are openly asking for tips. It was not a pleasant sight.
Overall, a very unsettling experience. I will definitely never return to this hotel.
