I was transferred to this hotel after the hotel I had booked and paid for bumped me in favour of another booking. Actually it was the 2nd hotel I was driven to at 3am after arriving solo in Kolkata- what an initiation. I just wanted a shower and bed so over looked the initial shabbiness of the room. Turned the bathroom light on and got a disco! Flashing power surges with sound effects to match. No hot water, filthy bathroom and floor, no working kettle - called manager who sent
a boy to fix the light to no avail - he disappeared and never came back. To cut a long story short I was eventually moved to another room which was marginally better but was not lockable from the inside so I spent an hour sleeping until I left with furniture against the door.
Terrible service trying to get a taxi organised when leaving and eventually I walked out to the street and got my own.
Do not stay in this hotel, I would probably vote it the worst hotel I have ever stayed in with the worst service.
We booked the hotel for one night before heading out for Shantiniketon, but decided to come back and stay there for the rest of our trip in Kolkata- because we loved it there! For 3000 Rs. per night, we couldn't have found a better place to be in. The Hotel is a bit difficult to find if you don't know what you're looking for and the lift could've been more spacious. But that's all the flaws we could find with the place. The hotel is well located, New Market is just at a walking distance. It has shops, restaurants, taxis all closely located. The rooms are spacious, clean, TV and all the other amenities work just fine. Washroom, albeit small, was clean and well maintained. The hotel staff was more than helpful, and remarkably polite. Complimentary buffet was quite generous and menu would change everyday. On our last day we ordered food from the restaurant, and can we say it happens to be the best food we had in India? All in all, we know where we're going to live the next time we're visiting Kolkata.
Did a mistake, never ever again, NO WIFI don't give boardrooms even on a sunday for 2 hrs when it has no reservations, was asked to pay full day fare. Reception staff rude, wifi not working and rubbish reason being given for that
There is no good reason to choose this hotel in the shabby part of town unless you have daily business around there. For instance, if the plan is to go shopping daily around New Market, hangout with friends and family, movies, etc all centring around New Market then this hotel would be one of a few dozen to choose from, but i would still not recommend this.
Their service is fine by the way. Nothing spectacular but your regular affair. The entrance is terrible. Its at the end of a rather dodgy, foul smelling, semi dark alley.
The lobby is congested and gives you a fair idea about the rest of the hotel. Although the rooms are pleasantly surprising, the windows open to backyard garbage dumps and you would rather have them closed, which in turn, makes the rooms gloomy and stuffy. It tends to suffocate you in a couple of days. And the wifi was very consistently terrible.
Our choice was the Kemptom across the street but that was fully booked.
Again, choose this hotel only if you have daily business nearby.
Me? I would not stay here again.
Good location, friendly and helpful door staff.Rooms were ok but wi-fi was patchy,it kept dropping out, excellent wi-fi reception in lobby.Breakfast is average.Housekeeping service was slow.Felt ripped off when paying bill at end when paying between the Expedia rate and The hotel rate, there are much better hotels for the same or better price.
