The resort itself is very beautiful and the photos we saw online didn't really do it justice. The location, set just above the beach, is beautiful and everything was very well maintained including the gardens which were really nice. Rooms were relatively simple but I really liked them, comfortable, clean with a rustic style. On the other hand the service we received whilst there, was to be blunt, rubbish. One of the biggest issues, was how we had to wait for our food to arrive once we had ordered. The average waiting time (we actually started timing it!) was anywhere between an hour and an hour and 20 minutes....we made the joke that the best way around it was to order your lunch at breakfast and your dinner at lunch! If you wanted anything (the reception staff were particularity bad for this) you had to ask 3 times before it would actually get done and they would often say they would ring you back with an answer.....and then never would! Prime example of this was when the receptionist showed us to our room and gave us a demonstration on how to use the safe. Rather embarrassingly she locked the safe and then couldn't get open it again, so told us she would send someone round to fix it....despite chasing several times, nobody ever came and we eventually just gave up asking. Another big issue we had whilst staying at Manaltheeram was the governments decision to cancel the R500 and R1000 notes. You would think that given the significant implications this decision would have on all of the guests staying at the resort, they would go out of there way to provide help.....you would be wrong! There was no information or help given at all, in fact until we brought up the subject there was no mention of it at all. When we did ask the reception for directions to the nearest bank where we could change our notes, they were useless, giving us completely the wrong information and generally been unhelpful! Most people staying at the resort were there on some sort of health kick. There was a vast array of treatments offered at the rather bazar 'hospital' where you could find a great number of so called 'doctors' hanging around doing nothing. I decided to go for an 1 and a half hour oil massage which turned out to be a big mistake. I can honestly say that there was absolutely nothing enjoyable or relaxing about this so called 'massage'. The room I was taken to reminded me of a prison cell, dark, dingy and smelt rather odd. The first part of the massage was done on a stall (not exactly comfortable to sit on) and the rest was simply I man throwing oil on me and then pushing it up or down with either his hand or foot with absolutely no technique at all! To sum up I think the Manaltheeram is a good place to stay and does offer good value for money, but they seriously need improve the service they provide customers with!
Fabulous place and experience. Comfortable clean room.good air-conditioning, and chairs to relax in on patio.. Great obliging cooks. All meals amazing smorgasboard dining , with sea views, and under the palm trees .,with evening musicians, who were great.Welcoming and helpful smiling friendly, impeccible staff. Best swimming pool I've encountered in Kerala , with step access instead of inaccessible ladder access, which make pools impossible for the elderly and disabled. Beach to die for , village people landing their fishing catch was the experience of a lifetime.Plenty to do and entertain you.
Service - excellent, food - delicious, cottage - very clean, treatment - very good. best of all is the Location directly at the ocean - sooo peacefull - really great! I will come again, had a perfect time in Malantheeram
This is a beautiful property...I enjoyed 5 days of R & R with the most incredible two hour massages every day. Great variety of vegetarian food - always a surprise to see what was in the buffet. Clean and well maintained. I had a package plan with was very reasonable...only wish I could have stayed longer!
An excellent place to rest. The staff were very hospitable and nice. I would recommend this place to everyone. The well maintained swimming pool is a big attraction for kids. The food was decent, but the prices for the buffet seemed a bit high. The facility where the ayurvedic massages are given is excellent, with ayurvedic doctors and massage therapists working together to make our stay relaxing and enjoyable. The location of the resort itself is a big relaxation, be it the beautiful sea view from the room / restaurant / pool / yoga hall etc., or the comfortable seclusion from the city noise. People travelling with young children need to come prepared with child seats / carriers where your child can sit / sleep comfortably, as there are not much options like high chairs etc. The performances by various artists during dinner is a commendable effort to entertain guests. A well planned holiday resort that makes a cool relaxed vacation.
