This pleasant ayurveda resort is nicely situated overlooking a long beach. Professional doctors and treatment staff and attentive staff overall. Slightly individualised treatments it seems, no blod exams etc. Familiar feeling. Three star plus establishment. Avoid tailor though. Good and ayurvedic food for each dosha is upside (you can also order western food) and traditional Kerala cottages at best with your own hammock. Nicely situated yoga area. Expect to be awakened by the hindu temple next door. Charming or annoying- you decide..Don't expect five star services but you get what you need. Want company- easy to find among other guests, a lot of independent visitors, mainly German. Want solitude? Also possible to enjoy your highly personal ride with yourself and your treatments. Almost everyone are here for treatments. Internet only available in reception area that hets a bit packed in the evenings. Next door to well known Somatheeram and Manaltheeram where you have more of a resort experience with evening shows, russians and all
Fantastic beach except for the fishermen still using it as toilet, but that is not unique for this area. Village areas nearby. 9 km to Kovalam if you long for more touristic area, shopping, restaurants etc. Just dont live there . Transport as almost everything in India cost very little.Be observant of the consequences of the harbour that is being developed south of Kovalam. Several resorts have shut down already due to this.
Watch out also for the temple festival period late Jan/Feb. Fun and loud, you might get heavily reducera sleeping hours but the rates are also reduced.
I had a great stay, went home relaxed and 'vaccinated' with great memories from Kerala
My expectations on India was not very great. But thankfully all my preconceptions were wrong! Located right by a hindu temple and next to a christian shrine with a beach view of mosques I spent a forth night at this cosy, warm and friendly hotel and did not want to leave when time came.
Clean, spaicous, simple rooms. No frills, but traditional Kerala style interior. Wonderful hotel staff and an amazing chef! The hotel is divided by a road, where some of the bungalows are on the dining hall side and some at the clinic side. India is not as organized as what a westerner perhaps is used to, but that's the charm. The road gave an insight to what real inhabitants did in their daily life. But do you want a totally quite retreat, this is not the place.
I was there in a larger group for a panchakarma. We each had a consultation on a daily basis with the Ayurvedic doctor and then had two hours treatment each day. Everything was very professional regarding treatment staff and doctor. The hotel had yoga class in the morning and meditation, all lead by Kerala style yogis. Unfortunatly heavy rains made the back waters leak into the ocean which made the water dirty. How ever they do have a small pool. The beach was wonderful to walk in the mornings when all the fishermen and children pulled their nets in the heavy sea. Magic!
My mum and I had been staying here at this wonderful place for 2 weeks. Everyday we had our Ayurveda Treatments (2 hours diffrent massages), Liters of delcious tea, great vegetarian Food, amazing salads and Desserts (although this is not Ayurveda like, but it is "life like" and sooo good.
Everyone of the Hotel staff is so friendly and helpful. The security guys even light your way when it is dark.
The Chalets are equiped in a simple but effective way. The area itself is wonderful - everywhere you look, Palm trees. the Sound of the ocean is in you ears everytime, which is wonderful. Yoga and Meditation are absolutely Relaxing and you feel the strength and strech of the Body after 2 times of doing yoga :)
The beach can be reached over some steep steps. The waves mostly are too big to get into the ocean, except you are a perfect swimmer.
All in all ... very good, anytime again !
Last year my wife and I had a negative experience at another Aruvedic centre not far from Kovalam. This February we tried Nicky's Nest. Our usual expectations of cleanliness, tidiness and good maintenance were met and exceeded. The location is both a surprise and delight. We enjoyed a picture book view of Coconut palms and the beach below. Most impressive was the attitude of the staff. Anyone can be taught to do the maintenance, cleaning and catering, but staff with the right attitude have to be hand picked. Our thanks and compliments to Nicky's Nest. We'll be back! Yvonne and Phil.
I stayed here for 2 nights booked through an Indian company. I had not realised it was an Ayurvedic treatment centre when I booked, but the chef was very helpful in providing a wide choice of food through extensive menu. 95% of people staying were from Germany and no other English people present, I did have a couple of conversations but if you are a solo traveller like I am you could become lonely if you stayed longer.
It is situated next to A Hindu temple so likely to be woken up at 5.30 in the morning. My house right near the ocean so to hear the waves was bliss assisted me to sleep at night.
