The quote in the headline is an impromptu quote from my wife when I saw her after her massage. This place was incredible in so many ways. My wife and I are from the East Coast of the US and had never been to Kerala. We were greeted after a very long trip with a refreshing coconut drink and given a tour of the beautiful property, set on cliffs overlooking the ocean. We stayed in the Octagon Room, which had windows looking out on multiple sides with spectacular ocean views. The room was immaculate and the staff seemed eager to serve us, no matter the nature of the request. Whatever request we had was fulfilled in minutes and always with respect and a smile. We felt comfortable, safe and absolutely pampered. We took advantage of the tour to the elephant preserve and also of a cultural tour of Trivandrum, which was dutifully arranged by the knowledgeable staff at Niraamaya. Our guide to the city was from the city, and knew the answer to our every question. And each morning, although I had never done yoga before, my wife and I did the morning yoga. We loved it and the ambiance cannot be beat. You are set on a platform mere feet from the ocean on a platform overlooking the ocean and beach. The guru was so patient and knowledgeable that I booked private meditation lessons with him, which I loved. And my wife got a massage, which, as I wrote in the headline, was "the best I've ever had in my life." She is still raving about it. The food was delicious, so much so that I bought the cookbook to come back and attempt to recreate some of the delicacies. So, in short, when I next go back to that part of India, I won't bother looking around. I will book this again in a heartbeat and know that I will get a 5-star experience.
Thank you, dear Niraamaya, for the excellent service, amazingly delicious food and an atmosphere of endless love for your guests. I am not here for the first time and not the last .Niraamaya is always in my heart.
I really struggled to decide whether or not to give this property 4 or 5 stars. Overall, we had an absolutely amazing stay. The food was extremely impressive, and set the standard to which we compared all other meals while we were in Kerala. My experience at the spa was absolutely fantastic--the facility is stunning and treatments that I received were simply incredible. Lastly, every single staff member that we encountered really couldn't have been more helpful.
There were however a few downsides. Number one, a large pier is being constructed to the north of the property (I believe near Vizhinjam). It is quite an eyesore, and creaking of the pier when the surf is strong can be quite loud and can be heard throughout the resort. Overall the rooms are lovely, however there are no screens on the windows--as a result we rarely opened the shutters due to the bugs and the rooms were quite dark. Finally, it is worth being aware that it is not possible to spend time on the beach after sundown--two gates with 24-hour security guards prevent access. Some may appreciate this safety measure, but to us it felt very restrictive.
It was a lovely retreat to stay at and I'm glad that we went, but think that that next time we are in the region we might try another option.
I only stayed a couple of days in a rock garden room but this is a fantastic place to unwind. The room and grounds are lovely with everything thought of, staff and service excellent, restaurant tasty, and pool and spa perfect for relaxing.
The only blip on the horizon, literally, is the port being built between the retreat and Kovalam, its not the sight so much as the constant background thrum of what I assume to be pumping or dredging, which is a pity because otherwise this place would be absolutely perfect.
