Paradise on earth Paradise on earth

by jibinchettani on February 17, 2017

somatheeram Ayurveda Resort , for me it is Paradise on earth !! Although I did not have treatments this time, I did before, the location, staff friendly and nothing to much, always big smiles, and the most delicious food with typical Kerala spices! A perfect retreat.

Great place Great place

by sundusmonis on February 16, 2017

We booked for soma palmshore resort, but due to some undisclosed reasons, we were sent to this resort, since they are the same hotel chain. Initially i didnt liked the place bcz it was very far from beach nd we were not given desired room. We had elderly nd children too with us. But after we insisted, they gave us a kerala standard room at no extra cost. The ambience and quality was very good. It was mainly an ayurveda resort with 90% foreigners stayng there for ayurveda treatments. Although we didnt had any treatment, but the resort was too good otherwise. The food, the people nd the peace.!

In The right Hut a great resort, In the wrong hut, noisy and unrelaxing. In The right Hut a great resort, In the wrong hut, noisy and unrelaxing.

I have just returned with my wife from a three week stay where I went specifically for the Ayerverdic treatment which is quite fantastic. The huts are clean but very basic more basic than they should be for the price. They are very busy so busy they are building a huge concrete addition to the hotel, that is the lift you see poking above the cliff top by the pool connecting the old resort to the new. We will have to see if they can maintain the same standard and atmosphere. I have the same complaint as many other reviewers, the staff on reception seen chaotic and disorganised and not actually able to effect change. Everything is now controlled from an office that does not open to 12 lunch time and they dictate the rooms where you stay. We spoke to many disgruntled guests who having returned many times requested specific rooms and despite emails confirming this they were not given them. I was upgraded during my stay and rather unceremoniously downgraded again for the last few days where I had to go to the top of the resort. This is a very bad place to stay it is so noisy, the church speakers announcing to the world, the next door generator and billowing diesel and just the close proximity of the huts. I was chatting to my wife in bed when another angry guest banged on our window and told us to stop talking. You need to stay close to the pool which is obviously where the more expensive huts are located. There is also confusion with the two adjacent resorts, as you leave one it says thank you for visiting Somatheeram then welcome to Somatheeram! They were once one and after a family dispute they have split them in two. The beach resort has no access to the beach unless you go through the neighbouring resort. It's not really a problem. The second resort which seems to have considerably more awards for the health treatment is much more refined, i'm not sure if there is a price difference but the rooms are considerably more impressive than the beach resort. I think we will try it next time we go. The Somathereram group have big bill boards around the property telling you they have won many tourism awards but they seem to be for best internet and best communication. An award I wouldn't have given them. Before anyone writes to say local customs must be defended to excuse the noise 'I'm glad you enjoyed your stay' the one huge improvement the manager needs to make is empower her front room staff to actually be able to resolve issues without having to refer to a shadowy back room staff hundreds of miles away. It was the one thing that guests brought up time after time. We were on a package where the treatment and food was included. I would say that it is a good deal, the food was really very good and the doctors charged with our care really couldn't have been better, the hotel staff are kind, bright, enthused and they help create a very positive atmosphere. Communication with booking is very difficult and I wasn't really sure what I had bought until after I arrived. As I say Front desk/ assistant managers need to read the sign by the reception where Gandi extols how fortunate they are to have customers and how important it is to look after them otherwise they will kill the cash cow that feeds them.

Serene! Beautiful! Serene! Beautiful!

We were a family of four.. I had initially booked at a different resort of the same group and I was upgraded to this resort and boy was I glad!.. Getting there is a bit of a pain.. Many narrow roads and its a bit interior.. But upon reaching it was truly worth it.. One of the best maintained and beautiful resorts I have stayed in.. The staff are friendly and the hospitality is excellent.. There are many ayurveda health facilities available with round the clock doctors.. The views are stunning from the resort.. The private beach is excellent and clean... Food is all vegetarian though.. But it is all organic and extremely healthy.. You do get non veg but u should order it before u reach the restaurant as it will take a lot of time to prepare.. Rooms are small but cozy.. And very clean It's a great place to unwind!.. Only gripe I had with them was the restaurant staff were not tht attentive.. I had to stand up for almost 5 mins to get their attention.. But overall it was an excellent experience.. And I will be sure to return here again!

Disappointing Disappointing

by Morealle on January 21, 2017

The hotel was over booked when I arrived and my room had been given away before I arrived although I booked and paid months in advance. I was made to stay in a temporary room for the first night but was still charged full price. The reception staff and did not help, has not even replied to the email I sent yet . Every Sunday morning for three hours and wed eve for a couple of hours - there is a very loud mass on loudspeakers in the church that joins the resort. The rooms nearby are very loud Also there is a Hindu festival on in January - the temple also backs into the resort and this noise is crazy loud, starts at 6 am and also in the night . This festival ends on Jan 15 so don't go in Jan before this. The Ayurvedic doctor did not do an assessment of me when I told her I wasn't taking a package. I've never come across this before and it is very bad, so if you have an illness you want to get treated then go elsewhere. The other somatheeram or manaltheeram gave me a full assessment even though I didn't take a package other years. The beach access is via the next door hotel , and is a long climb down and back up via steps through their grounds . If you like to walk the beach or sunbathe there then pick manaltheeram The driver I pre paid for and booked at the hotel crashed while I was in the car , he knocked a lady from a moped. She was not hurt thankfully. Then he didn't know how to get to where I was going but only told me after 1.5 hours. I had to direct him and we used google maps . The cleaners are not thorough and don't seem to sweep the floor Ongoing building works for over a year below pool and hotel Good Ayurvedic massage therapists. Nice pool. Nice staff in restaurant. Planting great and landscaping. Simple/ standard room / hut is nice and airy. White walls and high ceilings. Lots of free drinking water brought to the hut every day and local English language newspaper. Every hut has a personal hammock.
