Disappointing Disappointing

by Morealle on January 21, 2017

The hotel was over booked when I arrived and my room had been given away before I arrived although I booked and paid months in advance. I was made to stay in a temporary room for the first night but was still charged full price. The reception staff and did not help, has not even replied to the email I sent yet . Every Sunday morning for three hours and wed eve for a couple of hours - there is a very loud mass on loudspeakers in the church that joins the resort. The rooms nearby are very loud Also there is a Hindu festival on in January - the temple also backs into the resort and this noise is crazy loud, starts at 6 am and also in the night . This festival ends on Jan 15 so don't go in Jan before this. The Ayurvedic doctor did not do an assessment of me when I told her I wasn't taking a package. I've never come across this before and it is very bad, so if you have an illness you want to get treated then go elsewhere. The other somatheeram or manaltheeram gave me a full assessment even though I didn't take a package other years. The beach access is via the next door hotel , and is a long climb down and back up via steps through their grounds . If you like to walk the beach or sunbathe there then pick manaltheeram The driver I pre paid for and booked at the hotel crashed while I was in the car , he knocked a lady from a moped. She was not hurt thankfully. Then he didn't know how to get to where I was going but only told me after 1.5 hours. I had to direct him and we used google maps . The cleaners are not thorough and don't seem to sweep the floor Ongoing building works for over a year below pool and hotel Good Ayurvedic massage therapists. Nice pool. Nice staff in restaurant. Planting great and landscaping. Simple/ standard room / hut is nice and airy. White walls and high ceilings. Lots of free drinking water brought to the hut every day and local English language newspaper. Every hut has a personal hammock.

If you are looking for a simple yet accomplished place in terms of its Ayurvedic treatments and the right kind of food to go with, then there's no need to look further than Somatheeram Ayurveda Resort. It's a nice and cozy place which will give you all the comfort along with a great environment for ayurvedic treatments. We had an absolutely great time and the best thing was that our kids enjoyed as well!

good cottages/bad services good cottages/bad services

Their USP is the beautiful property, amid of green surroundings next to a not so crowded beach, though quite old one. But services are real slow, due to lack of staff or may be some other reasons. We had to call 4-5 times and wait for almost 1- 1.5 hrs. when we faced some issue in our locker. again for check out the staff took almost 40-50 mins, as you can't carry you luggage due to lot of stairs from the cottages to the pick-up/drop areas. Moreover the buffet(B/F) food they serve is not at all edible, they serve food as per their ayurveda treatment centre even to their regular guest coming for leisure travel...

Perfect place to relax for people coming from metros ! Perfect place to relax for people coming from metros !

The moment I stepped in , I was totally awed by their property.location is perfect- it is very close to a quiet beach. Fortunately, this beach is not frequented by tourists and one can truly enjoy the clean water. Location wise it is 10/10. Facilities: 10/10 clean, good swimming pool. Yoga sessions. During our stay we saw dance programmes and Veena/Sitar show arranged at their properties. I think they had all that is promised for a good Ayurvedic retreat ! Food : 7/10. Having travelled extensively in southern India, I didn't feel it had the authentic Kerala taste but I think it could be because of the Ayurveda value that they brought in. Nonetheless, the buffet spread was good enough. Overall, a wonderful property, worth the money, and would highly recommend it to my friends and family.

Stay Somewhere Else...! Stay Somewhere Else...!

Horrible experience at the hotel. In terms of the spa, when we arrived we selected the package that gave you 2 hours of spa service per day for three days. The spa service was not relaxing AT ALL because the two therapists talked the WHOLE two hours of my treatment. I ended up only completing two days of treatment because it was so disappointing and not relaxing as it should be. The service was quite bad as well - when we asked for white towels, a hair dryer, and bottled water, someone showed up with towels and that was it. We had to call again to ask for the remaining two items, and then the hair dryer came... then we had to ask again for water, which eventually came. Also, the place is quite run down and since you are in a more remote location, you can expect large bugs to show up in your shower like they did for me. In the morning I opened the shower curtain to find dead cockroach looking bugs in the shower. Will never stay here again (we left early) and I would not recommend this hotel either.
