23 days at Uday, Samudra Beach Hotel, Kovalam, Kerala, India.
I have nothing but praise for this holiday, the hotel, not in its early days with some signs of age but it was very clean, the food was plentiful, the 3 pools were very inviting. The rooms were large enough, very clean with all the accessories needed but the absolute excellence was the staff. From being greeted at reception by a very polite, helpful young lady called Sony George. The ladies that kept our room spotless, housekeeping supervisor Sumi and the young lady Remya. Then there was the lady Saritha who appeared to looked after everyone and be involved in organisation of events, she was a little treasure. The young men that waited on in the dining room and restaurants were pleasant courteous and helpful, although sometimes I thought the guests were, lets say a little off with them, perhaps a culture issue. Although at Samudra Beach this could be a little disappointing if you like the feel of sand in your toes as there is very little to none and is very difficult to get to. There are sandy beaches close, one just a short walk but the better one for sand and facilities is Lighthouse beach, where there are many shops, restaurants and sun beds and in a Tut Tut cost less than 2 to get there. We were there for Christmas and New Year and the parties and entertainment that the hotel organised were magnificent, in every way, food, setting, entertainment, it was all best quality. Would I go again, most definitely and looking forward to our next trip.
The front office staff, bell captain, the room service and hospitality deserves compliments and appreciation! The area which requires attention and focus is the Restaurant which serves breakfast and which brims with excessive crowd, always! The food counters are very crowded and some families encircle the counter in such a way that it becomes difficult to even have a look at the food item served or kept there! I had ordered Garlic bread in my room and kept one wrapped in an aluminium foil for my next day's early morning Tea, as I am diabetic. To my surprise, the next day when i reached for the packet, I found the foil pilfered and some 25% of the bread eaten!! This proves that there are rodents that are set free during the night time when you are asleep!! The hotel needs to look into this aspect if they want to rate themselves as a star hotel. Otherwise, the property is ideally located on the beach, with 3 swimming pools, bars, Spa and massage center for rejuvenation. The hotel tariff is quite high though the Menu rate card seems reasonable.
It was real pleasure to stay with Uday Saundra Kovalam. We stayed in room 510 facing the beach and pool with a fantabulous view. Food was great , service is excellent, staff was extremely super. There were couple of rundown issues in the room with regards to Air conditioning, plug sockets etc. I would not like to express more on that since everywhere there would be minor issues like this. The Customer relationship manager Ms Sarida met us and we told her the issues. Such a professional lady , she stood for the organisation and pampered us to solve everything in no time. She introduced her boss and the whole team to me and all of them assisted me during my 10 nights stay.
I would love to stay at UDS whenever I am at Trivandrum. Thank all for making me stay wonderful especially Madam sarida.
The location and the resort is great. We can easily access the beach and sit there even in the night to feel the beach. My daughter enjoyed in the swimming pool a lot.
The food is not that great, we had buffet breakfast and it was below average.
