Less than expected though I had the lake view room, i think the resort needs lots of maintainence. Overall an average experience.

Our stay was wonderful in this property. Canal View Room was comfortable, neat and tidy. Ambiance was great. Service was very good, only negative feedback was about food in the restaurant, breakfast was pathetic as it was tasteless & they do use to add salt for the food however dinner was ok. Overall, except food everything was above average.

Quirky place Quirky place

by Julie D on February 18, 2017

This was a quiet location, however a little disappointing for more than one night. All meals were set affairs and often started later than the advertised time. There was a feeling that the hotel was understaffed and running down... bar not opened, front desk staff occasionally rude.... feels like it needed a bit of a boost to lift it to its advertised status. Local bird life was beautiful and pool nicely placed. With a bit of TLC this place could be restored to its former glory.

Good depending on the rate you pay. Good depending on the rate you pay.

Good place for a 3 star to stay if one gets a good rate. If a good rate is not recieved, would instead highly reccomended staying instead at the privately owned Taj just up the road or the other resort also by the body of water nearby of which I don't know the name. Pros - Beautiful & stunning location / setting surrounded by nature. - Unique design & plot of land which is well maintained - Each visitor has their own cabin on stilts of which canals run under. - For a 3 star - Above average amenities in the rooms. Aka tea making facilities, decent TV, 500mb of wifi. - Awesome what seemed to be a natural soap bar lol by the sink. I'll have to buy one for myself somewhere. - Additional spa services provided at extra cost. - Beautiful & warm freshwater pool overlooking nearby lake/body of water. - Nearby private boat rides. - Decent breakfast consisting of cereal, eggs, fruit, juice, toast & some saags/Indian Currys. Cant say the same for lunch (see cons) & dinner was average. Neutral - Beer "parlour" was a suprise to see. Being a hindu country where many don't drink it's not expected from me at your place of stay. So it was a refreshing surprise. However I would not call it a "parlour" at all. Only kingfisher is available which is a pretty bad beer even for Indian standards. Good price though. I'm a picky beer drinker though so each to their own. The so called "parlour" however, has no staff inside of it & is a dimly lit, aged, seedy room which you do not want to drink in. Order beer at the restaurant instead for a nicer setting. Cons - I don't want to Tarnish the entire staffs reputation here or get any of them fired as some like the baggage handler, maintenance staff etc were very nice & professional... However, had many issues with restaurant staff however who in my opinion the hotel needs to fire & re hire or at least re train existing restaurant staff who are apathetic to the point where it was quite frustrating & unacceptable even for a 3 star. That along with other communication problems. One guy kept doing the shaking of his head thing at everything you asked for, which was confusing & barley spoke English < Which is not expected for everyone in India of course but at least for people working in the tourist industry. Had to ask a several times to get what you want from some but not all restaurant staff. - Poor quality of meat dishes. For your safety & enjoyment would reccomend sticking to the veggie & other cooked/not cold dishes at this place. - Limited food selection for lunch. When I went there was only pakora (which were tasty however) & some drinks available for lunch.

Excellent Property but no maintainance Excellent Property but no maintainance

The resort location is super and scenic, but lack of maintenance. Breakfast is good. It is next to Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary and you can go for bird watching at early morning. All the cottages are independent and photogenic, but the path ways ad stairs made of irons are rested.

Visited in Jan - 4 adults and 2 kids under 4. What a beautiful place. Loads of fish n turtle in the canals. Kept the kids thoroughly entertained. The infinity pool was simple heavenly. A very natural place full of birds and ducks and kingfishers. The lake itself is simply beautiful. Breakfast was plenty and great. Kids had soooo much fun! Will definitely go back

Lovely location! Lovely location!

This is a government owned resort and is right next to the bird sanctuary so its very relaxing to hear all the chirping of different birds. The views of the lake are amazing but you can smell the stagnant waters of the canal as you walk through. The food was good, we had a buffet dinner and it had a good variety of vegetarian options. The rooms are nice however can do with some maintenance as some of the sockets weren't working and the bathroom was dated. Overall, the hotel is good value for money.
