With high expectation, as learnt reading reviews, we booked two deluxe rooms for 01/10/17 and 02/10/17 and finally, I along with my family of four members visited Dooars Palm Resort on 01/10/17, Sunday, evening around 6.30 pm from Bagdogra airport. In short, we experienced 1) There was none to carry our bag and baggage from our vehicle, to our rooms. After waiting for 15/20 mnts finally, to our much embarrassment we found the poor Manager of the resort, Shyamal babu, personally carried those to our rooms. 2) The basin inside the room was unclean showing food particles and other wastes dropped in it. 3) The bath room was equally unclean with foul smell. 4) We were provided only two towels, in two rooms, for five adults. When insisted for two more towels, it was flatly refused. 5) TVs were there, in both the rooms, but could not be operated as we were informed those are out of order. 6) we went to kitchen and enquired for chicken preparation for dinner, we were told as few guests have demanded for mutton curry, chicken would not be cooked as if we were outsiders and staying for free hence no option for us. 7) There is a beautiful sitting area inside the resort where we were sitting around 7.30 pm and beside this there is a wonderful watch tower with spiral iron stairs to reach the top of it. To my utter surprise, I noticed a group of 5/6 persons, could be local people, with bottles in hand passed our sitting area and climbed the said watch tower and sat there. It was followed by a boy from kitchen carrying few glasses and snacks. I was so upset with all these issues that I decided to run away from this horrible place with family at the earliest. Accordingly, I cancelled my booking for 02/10/17, notified Shyamal babu, the Manager, about my displeasure and anguish over the issues and left the resort early morning next day on 02/10/17, even without breakfast. No doubt the location is very good, surrounding area is equally beautiful so is the area inside the resort but a) Its management is worst b) Acute shortage of manpower c) Very poor maintenance d) Complete lack of supervision otherwise how people can enter and drink in open where ladies/children are moving around? However, it has to be mentioned that its one man show only ie Shyamal babu, the manager, room attendant, cook, gardener, receptionist and what not? A decent, soft spoken gentleman, with ice cool head managing the entire show from morning 5am to mid night running around like a mad man. Mr Rajdeep, please take note of the serious issues experienced by me during our one night stay. If you do not take immediate steps to stop such unwanted activities inside your resort and also improve the services in specific areas mentioned above, you are going to jeopardize, your prestige and reputation of a wonderful property, which will definitely avoided by all sensible people. And none but you will be responsible for that. For your information, this was my third visit to dooars and I have never faced such undesirable, uncomfortable and disgusting situation in presence of my family before while all expects peace tranquility and full enjoyment during tours and travel.
The Dooars Palm Resort boasts of a nice and convenient location , bang on the highway and very close to the Gorumara national park gates. It is also neigbour to Batabari tea estate and offers nice views of tea garden which is always a pleasing sight . Unfortunately , you wont see any pleasing views from the rooms . The opposite side of the road is heavily forested . Once you enter the place through a narrow one-car -wide passage it opens into a clump of buildings small and big and some cottages at the far end , with a lawn in the middle. Some greenery does exist within the premises including some slender arecanut palm trees , providing justification to the name of the place. You distinctly get the feeling that whoever built this place didnt have a plan and buildings were made at random probably at different times. We were shown to our cottage which was next to a makeshift kitchen and within half hour of our moving in we had to seek a change to another room elsewhere away from the noise and din the workers were making at the kitchen. It was a weekend and some event was going on in the lawn for the entertainment of some corporate group and their families accompanied by loud filmi music and making the environment quite unbearable. By late evening we discovered the resort was also hosting a large Bengali film production unit and the film crew and actors returned from their outdoor sets and the hotel staff were busy catering to them with no thought to the other guests. The noise levels were alarming and we wished we could run away from there . Sadly we were stuck there for it was too late to do anything about it.
We knew we had made a huge blunder coming to this place but decided to ignore the discomforts and concentrate on enjoying the trip ie., visiting the Gorumara national park and other attractions such as Medhla watch tower and Chapramari watch tower . We left the resort early next morning for outings and returned late afternoon past sunset and spent a second night eagerly looking forward to the next morning when we would leave this place for Jaldapara. Our experience of this place is eminently forgettable.
This hotel is hopelessly understaffed and there seemed to be just one person who was doing all the running around . The manager of the resort is a very attentive and helpful sort but there is a limit to what one man can do . The food was pathetic and could almost be called subsistence ration ! Probably we went there at a time the minimal staff were busy running around attending to their more glamourous film crew , we dont know. Surely we are not going there again.
For all these pleasures we also ended up paying a whopping 3000 Rs per night which I thought was a rip off . All food was charged extra including cups of tea. I am sure for that kind money you would find far superior places at Lataguri , better environment and surely lot more decent food options. This place is no better than an average roadside inn that offers B & B but has pretensions to a resort that it is not. Be warned !!
nice location...on main road...near champabari wildlife sanctuary as well as Gorumara national park...ideal for 3/4 days stay and sight seeing and jungle trips ... Food and VIP rooms are good ad the views and garden area ideal
This is a small cosy place. The staff are friendly and helpful. Basic facilities available with simple made to order Indian food served on request. My room had a good view of NH 31 , the forest and tea gardens on one side. Pickup and drop from airport available on request. Jungle safaris and local sight seeing trips were arranged by the hotel.
