Friday the 13th May seven of us started for Kolakham,a small remote village in the lap of Kanchanjanga. After the grilling heat of Kolkata, when we reached Kolakham it was all wrapped with fog and mist and the cloud all around us.In a interior place like Kolakham 'the Pinewood Resort' was more beautiful than we expected. The rooms are spacious so is the washroom with modern bathroom fittings. But as we turn our head we found few stairs going up and when we landed up there,it was an attic in the room, which was a great surprise for all of us.As,we are not very familiar with this idea of attic it was thrilling for all us. The view of the widespread green canvas of the nature from the small window was wonderful and eye soothing .The food was delicious and fresh from their own kitchen garden. The hospitality of the staff needs special mention. The place 'Kolakham' and'The Pinewood Resort'will always come together will be in our memory for a long time. I never thought a Sunday family lunch could have given a pleasant and memorable family trip..After long discussions it was decided we are going to Kolakham,a small remote village in the lap of Kanchanjanga.Date to be decided on the availability of the ticket. At last,on 13th May we started. After long search he Pinewood Resort, was the place ,having no idea that how it would be.

Gateway to a memorable holiday! Gateway to a memorable holiday!

If you want to dip your toes into the cloud and soak in the tranquillity of nature far way from the banality of the ever-tiring urban life, Kolakham is the place to be. Located around 8 kilometres away from Lava on the fringe of Neora Valley National Park, the small hamlet will offer you a perfect fix of breath-taking view of Kanchenjunga and the trill of staying amidst nature. And if you are in Kolakham, this resort can be your perfect resting place. You can spend the day just sitting on your chair at the veranda adjacent to the rooms seeing the clouds playing hide and seek with the forest and the majestic mountain peaks, or you can trek down to the Changey Waterfalls and enjoy the rustic beauty of the forest. The rooms are cosy and can host four persons comfortably. But the real fun is the attic rooms. You will never realise when you have dozed off as you stare at a distant patch of light among the dense dark forest right opposite your window. Thats Rishyop wide awake in the sleeping forest. And as you wake up after a wonderful nights sleep, Kanchenjunga will be right there to greet you. The food is just awesome. The attendants are warm and will always make you feel at home. Another major attraction of the resort is the eating place. And as you take a sip of your morning cup of coffee sitting there staring at the distant mountains, I bet, you will surely plan your next trip back to Kolakham!

Firstly rooms are okk but not at all worth it spending so much to reach there. Real journey starts from lava to the destination hotel which is at "Kolakham". the bumpy and ridiculous road which is actually jst 8 kms to the destination but th road is too bumpy that it will take you more than an hour jst making you too tired to enjoy. Later when we reached the property we fond out the room totally booked and even after paying in advance online we were not allowed to stay there because the owner had allotted his rooms to his freinds. moreover asks those freinds to kick us out. Then when i called to the owner of the resort he straightly denies of having any booking moreover says that they have no more tie up with make my trip. we were homeless stranding without any way or vehicle back to lava because services and transport back to lava closes at 5 in evening. The owner of the hotel misbehaved on phone and was rude and had no sense of responsibilities. really a terrible experience. My sggesstion would be complete no. The bumpy road could end on getting body ache and a poor trip.

Good property inside Neoravalley Forest Good property inside Neoravalley Forest

Kolakham is a place inside Neora valley forest. Just before entering Lava from Gorubathan, you have to travel through a bumpy forest road for about half an hour (6-7 km) after entering your personal details at the forest entrance and depositing Rs. 100/- entry fee. However if you are a nature lover, you will love the calmness and serenity of this place. Though we couldn't see the mighty Kanchenjangha due to clouds during our stay for 2 nights, the virgin nature, smiling faces of local people and above all the chirping of the birds throughout the day definitely tranquil your disturbed urban nerves. About the hotel : It is a nice little property (4 or 5 rooms) at a height, so it's front is quite open. Rooms are pretty clean, decent interiors with wooden finish and clean toilets. Bed linens and towels etc were clean. However the ground floor room we stayed was a bit small to accommodate three. Food : Not much variety. Fixed menu, but quite tasty. We stayed there in the 3rd week of March and there were no other tourist in that property at that time. The driver, who dropped us at Pedong, was the only stuff we had seen. Cooking was done by him only (though he communicated that the regular cook had taken leave). It is purely a place for nature and bird lovers who wants to spend their time leisurely. A caution : Don't go there if you like to be engaged in various activities during your vacation and love to go for sightseeing. Please remember that it is a place deep inside a forest and don't expect a lot.
