I stayed in Mantra Cottage during my solo trip to Leh and it was a fantastic experience. They have deluxe cottages and Standard Rooms. I stayed in the Standard Room and it was great. The room with its big windows had a great view, it was spacious and clean, the bathroom was well maintained (important part) and it also had a balcony to enjoy the view with a cup of hot coffee/tea. The owner of Mantra Cottage, Mr. Tenzing is extremely hospitable and you can see that permeate to the rest of the staff. You'll probably become best friends with him by the end of your stay. He's done a lot of trekking so be sure to ask him about that. They also provide facilities for a bonfire. Mantra Cottage is a little away from the main city of Leh. You can easily walk up to the market from where you can get souvenirs for loved ones back home. Shanthi Stupa is very near Mantra Cottage, if you don't mind climbing all the steps to the top. Food at Mantra Cottage is good. Not a lot of variety but good enough for the days you are too tired to go to the market. Overall experience was great. Will definitely stay here the next time I visit Leh. And for any solo women travellers out there this place is perfectly safe, nothing to worry about!
