19 - 20 September, 2015 (Saturday-Sunday).
I planned a quick family getaway to Lucknow over a weekend, using
my frequent flyer points to get three one-way tickets for Yours
Truly, The Wife and Junior. The return would be on the Lucknow
Shatabdi Express. I was on the lookout for a relatively clean
and inexpensive hotel which would be near the railway station.
I booked a deluxe room in Hotel Sunrise, in the Pan Dariba area,
quite close to the Lucknow Charbagh Railway station. The railway
station is a central place in the city, and we would set out from
this place back to Delhi, by train. I made this booking on the
travel portal yatra.com on 13 September, 2015. I used some of my
existing points on the travel portal, to get a discount of Rs.46
on the cost of Rs.1121 (including the service tax), which came to
a total of Rs.1075, for one night's stay in a Deluxe room.
We flew in to the Chaudhury Charan Singh Airport in Lucknow's
Amausi sector, and took a pre-paid AC cab for Rs.550. Hotel
Sunrise was not difficult to locate. The room was of a
reasonable size, with a double-bed, and an attached bathroom.
Both were quite neat and clean. There is a small table, and an
almirah, and a split-air-conditioner: very basic amenities in the
room. The service is nothing to write home about. The reception
suggested places to eat around, and got us through to a nice
auto-rickshaw driver, who took us around the place for
sightseeing, as well as shopping, both on Saturday 19 Sept, as
well as Sunday the 20th. On Saturday, we had lunch at the
Dastarkhwan, and followed it up with sightseeing at the Bada
Imambara complex with the bhool-bhulaiyya labyrinth, the Baoli
step-well, from where we went to the Hussainabad Art gallery, saw
the clock-tower, and the chhota imambara from the outside, the
martyrs park beside the Gomti river, and finally, the British
Residency. We sent shopping for the famed Lucknawi Chikan fabrics
at one of the Sewa shops. The next day, we went from the hotel
to see the zoo and the museum, and had one more trip to a Sewa
outlet. On the way back, we picked up some galawti kebabs from
the Tunde Kababi shop, rushed to the hotel, packed up, and left
for the Charbagh Railway Station.
I located this hotel from net and made direct call and booked the room. This is not a Hotel but fulfills all conditions of a decent lodge. The rooms are neat and clean with A.C. facility. The reception staff is very good and friendly and ready to help. The Room Service is only for name sake. You will not get Tea even if you wait for more then one hour after ordering.better go outside and you will get everything you need. The rate is very reasonable. The location in the Google maps is shown wrong. It is after few hotels in the lane known as PAN DARIBA on the left side. This Hotel is very near Lucknow Junction and any one can walk down, if he does not have heavy luggage. For food you can go on the main road MANORANJAN SWEET HOUSE, which is a good restaurant.
Me and my family just got back from India. We stayed at Hotel Sunrise during our visit to Lucknow. We spent 2 nights there and we were all very satisfied with the services that were included in the price. The room service was fast, the staff was friendly and our room was well furnished and tidy and it is near to the main market, I can highly recommend it if you are planning to visit Lucknow for a couple of days and you would like to stay near the centre.
