Xavier, the owner, is very welcoming, relaxed and seems a real character and this is what sets the tone for the place! It's in a very good location, there's plenty space, nice garden, seating outside your room and you're just left to your devices - so what's not to like!
This is a place for the budget traveller and if you don't be serious on sleeping at luxury bedroom with air condition.I have paid only 300 Rs. for a single room attached bathroom. Actually, it is the first place where the auto rickshaw drop me at the point and he said this area have a lot of cheap lodging. You can walk and look it for yourself. So Tina Blue is at the corner.I end up here because I dont want to walk further and I am OK with the price. If you walk further, you will find a plenty of lodging which has a better condition. I suggest you to walk and find thing what you want.
We stayed three days at Mamallapuram and chose this hotel because it was described in Lonely Planet as having a nice garden, and on the whole we were not disappointed. After some bargaining, the owner gave us a quiet room with a rather large and cosy terrace, where one could sit and relax at the table (in the evening, of course, one has to take care of the mosquitoes).
My husband and I chose this place because it was mentioned in The Rough Guide but didn't check the reviews first as we normally do so I was suprised at how negative they were. We found it to be a lovely place to stay with a relaxed and friendly vibe, helpful staff and owner, in a central location near the beach, shops and all the sights. Yes, we did get bitten by mosquitoes, but it was hot and humid weather when we were here so it's not surprising. Nets are provided over all the beds and the accommodation is very clean. We paid IR 700 a night for a decent sized room with a lovely breezy verandah which was shady all day. Recommended.
I booked this place through Cleartrip as it was also mentioned in a couple of the India guide books. I feel those books should ditch the place in their next editions. To start with the owner /manager had made no provision for my reservation even though I had booked 2 weeks previous. He whined about not having been paid by cleartrip yet and flapped around deciding which one of his dark hot mosquito full boxes to allocate me. Following day I was pestered further about the cleartrip connection had to hand over copies of my personal CT booking emails, make calls to Cleartrip and was even coerced into 'borrowing' the Manager 200 rupees so he could travel to Chennai to talk to a Cleartrip official. A total farce! The place is a run down, miserly, mosquito farm. Rooms are dark, sweaty and depressing, my best advice - just move on Tina Blue is sinking fast.
