This hotel has a fantastic location - river on one side and snow capped mountains on the other side. This hotel is good but it is a bit too far from main manali. Not worth going so far unless you have your own car because the road is too bad. Mountain view is simply lovely. We had a good experience of snowfall and it was a real pleasure. Room was nice and large having all basic facilities. Service was good and quick. Staff was very helpful. Food was good but everything was very expensive. w is simply lovely. We stayed in luxuria suite it was not so great in looks as the interiors were of old style but the snow fall view was wonderful. Staffs were average in their service. The food was very tasty.

Our stay was good in the Classic Suite in Highland Park. But there was a hot water problem as it was too cold in Dec. There was a limited food option and the food was also not that tasty. Service was too good.

Far from the maddening crowd in the Far from the maddening crowd in the "Chandni Chowk" of Himachal

by Amitava M on February 11, 2017

Thanks to the torrential downpour throughout the journey from Delhi and travelling with a small child we managed to reach Manali by around 7 PM and for the inclement weather and snow around the "tourists" seemed to have gone back and left the road to our hotel empty. But yes it was a thrilling "adventure" to travel the last 12 -13 kms on the deserted snow covered road to our hotel with hardly any traction for our cars. It was my idea to go to Manali to show our grandchild snow and snowfall and many a times it did cross my mind on the last stretch that my son in law following in the car behind would be really considering to send me to a shrink for taking such a decision. But all such thoughts drifted away as soon as we crossed the narrow bridge over the Beas to reach our hotel. Its location is amazing and the view that we could little see in the night was promising. The Hotel staff I am sure did not expect any guest to come through in the night through that snow covered road but hats off to them they had all the luggage transferred to our rooms and made us feel comfortable within minutes. And in that inclement weather that is saying something. And then it started snowing again Getting to the room itself was an adventure, walking through a foot of snow, but the rooms were very welcoming. I had read of negative comments of one or two guests that housekeeping was terrible but for us it was outstanding. They had kept us waiting in the comfort of the warm lounge ( waiting would be a misnomer as we did let our hair down in the lounge after the relief of all road tensions and of course the beginning of the snowfall and the management did not interfere as we were the only guests at that time) till the rooms and the blankets were warm. The rooms were neatly arranged with clean linen and towels (approved by my wife and daughter who both are very finicky) and the beds and the quilts were inviting us to let the body go. After a very comfortable sleep woke up to see the sunrise from the bed itself and when we opened the three huge windows it was a sight to behold and remember. Through one window you could see the vast expanse of Apple Orchard completely covered in foots of snow reaching up to the majestic mountains, the second one gave the view of the gurgling Beas and the man made road going up to Rohtang and the third one opened to show the resort itself and the manali valley. And when I saw the happy face of my son in law all the apprehensions of the previous night blew away. People pay thousands of rupees to hire 4x4 to come up from manali to this point and play with the dirty snow on the highway and here we had captive white virgin snow acres of it all to ourselves and with staff at your beck and call to cater to your demands and fancies of the stomach. No word is enough to sing praises about the staff who were always with a smile serving you away under those extreme climatic conditions. We had booked under MAP and though the breakfast and dinner were not a la carte, the food was served warm, wholesome and of course very delicious. I will never forget one incident when my grandchild suddenly in the night went in to her "whims" of having gulab jamoon. Thank you Highland Park and all its staff for making even that possible far from Manali and in that weather were the locals would also think thrice before stepping out from their rooms. Thank you. Though I hate Manali for what a crowded "Chandni Chowk" it has become I still promise to come back to Highland Park maybe when it is an absolute dull time.

Bad approach to hotel and terrible rooms Bad approach to hotel and terrible rooms

by ramona2 on April 27, 2015

When I first saw a picture of this hotel I thought it had the perfect location on the banks of the River Beas but after my visit there I know that pictures on the internet can be very deceptive and does not really give a true picture. First of all if I knew how difficult it is to get to the hotel which is located at the other end of Manali, and we would have to drive through a lot of traffic and the crowded town I would have chosen a hotel like Citrus Manali which is located before you hit the traffic congestion of this place. To reach this hotel your car has to cross a hanging bridge which is so narrow that it only allows cars coming or going in one direction so sometimes we had to wait a long time till the flow of traffic stopped from the other direction. This was very annoying and the traffic used to get backed up quite often as there are more cars there than there are roads. When we checked into the hotel the first thing that struck me was the total disrepair of the place. It was grossly neglected and needed maintenance all over. It looked very shabby considering how much they were charging. Even the reception area was very sorry looking. When we saw our suites I was astonished at how small the bedrooms were and how dirty everything was including the couches in the living area which were so filthy that I did not feel like sitting on them. As another guest has mentioned before, there were telltale signs of the previous guests and it was gross. We had the bed sheets, quilts etc all changed because there were blood stains, marks and hair on all the sheets and quilt covers. I have stayed in a lot of hotels all over the world but never seen anything like this. Half the outlets were broken and the room heaters they provided hardly gave any heat unless you literally sat in front of them. The bathroom was kind of dark and not well lit. When I checked the toilet I found that the housekeeping staff had placed the white tape over the toilet but when I ripped this and lifted the lid I found dried urine all over the seat. I called housekeeping and asked them to come and clean the toilet seats. Two local women showed up and started to clean the toilet seat with the toilet bowl cleaner. I was dumbfounded at their lack of housekeeping skills. I asked them to get some disinfectant so they promptly returned with some Dettol and newspaper and started scrubbing the seat with newspaper. This is the standard of housekeeping at this hotel. They have untrained staff who really don't care about their jobs. Since we went in March it was pretty cold there and most of the time we felt extremely cold due to the lack of proper heating in the rooms or the dining area. The bathroom in the dining area was so gross that you would not feel like going in there a second time. The staff never bothered to wash and change the table cloths after the previous season ended so all the tables were covered with filthy table cloths with food stains on them. We literally had to ask them to clean everything we needed. The whole hotel is grossly neglected and fallen into disrepair. The only saving grace was the food which was pretty good since we were the only guests due to this being an off peak time so they basically cooked everything a la carte for us. The manager also was very helpful as were the other staff and did whatever we asked them. The view was pretty good but the river was not really easily accessible from the hotel. It was a steep climb down and the area was littered with trash. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

Terrible Service Terrible Service

by TravellerPrerna on October 7, 2014

The facilities and service of the so called resort is extremely poor. The location is good but not much inside. The washroom basin tap was leaking and in the other room of our over priced cottage, the tap in the bathing area was not working. The washroom tiles were old and rusty. The towels given were old and stained. The worst feature of the resort was its service - first they would not pick up the phone and when they would finally pick, they'd come after a long long time. At times we even had to give multiple reminders. It was really frustrating. There are not many facilities within the 'so called' resort. The food was also not so good. Our children were down with indigestion and vomiting when they ordered a snack for themselves. They must've used lie quality oil or stale ingredients. The most shocking part was the water that were serving in the name of drinking water - it was not filtered leave alone an Aquaguard - so we had to call for mineral water which was highly priced again. All in all, this resort is not at all as good as it looks! Disappointed!!!!

Good Hotel let down by Terrible Housekeeping Good Hotel let down by Terrible Housekeeping

by rajatjuneja on May 28, 2014

Hotel Highland Park, located at Nehru Kund, Manali, is a pretty good hotel. For starters the location is quite remote and the access to the hotel is from a Very Narrow road that is in terrible condition. Apart from that, however, the location itself is brilliant, with beautiful mountain views all around and from the room itself. Also, the river Beas flows directly behind the hotel and there are adventures like river crossing right within walking distance of the hotel. The food is also good, albeit, it was surprising to note that the hotel did not have many things mentioned in the menu. There is no WiFi and internet access can only be had from a hotel computer installed in their office. However, what really lets the hotel down is the terrible housekeeping. The restroom near the restaurant area was so bad that the entire restaurant was stinking. The lawns are also not maintained as they should be and overall the hotel gives the impression that it has seen better days. The rooms are OK, with coffee and tea sachets available so that you can enjoy tea / coffee in your room whenever you feel like it. Again the housekeeping and planning could be improved as one attached room in the suite was nearly bare and the other one cluttered. If you do stay at the hotel, choose one of the cottages, and have breakfast out on the platform overlooking the river Beas in bright early morning sunshine. That was super, and backed up with good food, makes up for a lot of things. For the amount of money charged for a single night, I would expect better housekeeping definitely, and better availability of food and snacks. Overall, the hotel loses out heavily on housekeeping and high room rentals. It makes up for that somewhat in terms of views and remote location if you're seeking privacy.

Amazing location.. Bad food.. Amazing location.. Bad food..

by Ajay_Anju on October 13, 2013

My wife and I stayed at this resort for 2 nights.. The location was amazing as the river Beas flows right next to the resort. There is also a spectacular view of the Himalayan mountain range from the resort, making it ideal for honeymooning couples. The rooms are well designed. But, food was very bad at this resort. Buffet gave us very few options, everything was bland and tasted the same. It literally gave me food poisoning. If you are very particular about food, you will be disappointed at this resort.

by AshuSab on July 3, 2012

Demo Trip The hotel though decent, location is not that great. its not only the hotel which matters but the surroundings too. Ask for the luxury suite with a living room. That is well worth the money. Views from the rooms are awesome.
