Nice I enjoyed my stay at the hotel. Breakfast was nice and tasty. Only sad part was evening we could not get nice tiffin when we came to the hotel very hungry. Only pakodas available.

I stayed at GoldFinch Hotel on 7th night along with my wife. The room and bathroom was pleasant and very clean when we arrived. However, the room that we booked was meant for two 'single' occupants rather than two people. There were two separate single beds in the room, which made it very uncomfortable for my wife and I to sleep on. The beds kept moving away from each other which left a gap in the middle. This was inspite of the fact that I had called the hotel earlier and advised them that I require it for my wife and I. They didn’t think it was important to mention that there were single beds rather than a double bed. When I asked the reception later in the morning, they mentioned that a double bed is available only in the Executive or Executive Club room (dont remember exactly which one it was). Otherwise the staff was nice and pleasant to speak to.

Booked this hotel online, but when I reached I needed an additional room which the hotel accommodated. Rate of room when booked at the venue was considerably cheaper. The rooms are just about ok, but bathroom are not. Everywhere you can see that it needs maintenance, or it appears quite old. The quality of sleep was good. The breakfast was good too. The location of the hotel is very good. The worst experience I had was with my car. I gave my car for valet parking, but when I got the car back, it was really dirty. They had parked my car in an open space in the hotel where external cleaning of the building was going on. All the dirty water fell on my car and the hotel did not even bother to clean the car. They gave it to me as if this kind of thing happens. These small things really spoil the whole experience.

The room 401 we got was the upgraded 'executive room' ; it felt nothing like an upgrade . Mattress tops , the quilts and bed covers were dirty ; think bloody and unwashed. And housekeeping refused to replace the mattress tops as they didn't have extra according to him. Smelly toilets drains Never coming back.

Please see review posted by my sister nirmalapinto in Jan 2017. I was staying at the hotel with her so all the comments hold true. She missed the following 1. I ordered in room dining one day. I think the food would have been prepared at the Sana dige. The chicken sukka came nowhere close to what you would expect in mangalore. Overcooked, rubbery breast pieces. The dish lacked character and taste. 2. The gym is more of a personal gym with only 3 equipment. No/poor air conditioning. Better to run outside. So don't go by that facility featured. There is also no swimming pool which you have at the gateway and a few other hotels. 3. Extremely poor processes. No bills presented or signatures taken for in room dining. I was worried what I might be presented at the time of checkout. Also as mentioned in the other post a IRD bill wasn't posted and they too 20 mins to get that posted making me risk my flight. 4. I had booked a twin room. Inspite of that at checkin they allotted a king bed. I had to ask for it to be changed which they did. And then on the 4th night (night before checkout) I receive a call asking me to shift to a king bed not once but thrice. This is not done. Having stayed many times at the gateway by Taj I would recommend that property over goldfinch any time. For 20 dollars more a night you can have a better experience with prompt action on feedback given the Taj brand. I stayed at the GF because the gateway was sold out. I can't comment about the other hotels in the same category in mangalore but I doubt they would be any different. Mangalore needs more chain hotels to improve the levels of service and quality. Until then stand alone restaurants can get away with anything as there isn't any competition. Just to be clear I paid more to stay here than at the Fairfield Marriott or four points in Bangalore. This was my last time at this hotel. It just isn't value for money.

(1) On day 1, I realised that the locker is locked and could not be opened. I complained about the unavailability of the locker for my use during my stay to the front desk on day 1 with repeat complaints throuhg my stay, but absolutley no action was taken on gettign the locker opened and available for my use. I was given different reasons by different members of staff, (a) all lockers in the hotel are locked and unavailable - I Was told this when I asked for my room to be changed to one that had an available locker (b) the master key is damaged and we are working on procuring it they mention electronic safe in room facilities but I was unable to use it through my stay forcing me to carry my valuables along with me at all times !!! (2) I asked for 2 room keys as we had a double occupancy room. Every day we had a problem with both of the keys getting deacctivated and us having to approach the front desk umpteen times to reactivate the keys. The hotel uses an incorrect method of activating room keys resulting in this problem. they need to check or upgrade your room key activation mechanism. The staff does not even understand that for double ouccpancy rooms, you need to provide 2 keys to allow both occupants access to the room as per their schedule. (3) The room reservation was done for a twin bed room. On the 4th morning, the hotel front desk called up 3 times to the room asking us to shift to a king bed room. When our reservation was done for a twin bed room, why did the hotel staff try to get us to shift to a king bed room. (4) the gym is unuseable becasue of inadequate air conditioning, forcing us to go for a jog outside the hotel. (5) After the first day, the housekeeping staff did not place a hand towel in the room through my stay (6) During checkout, we had to point out to the desk staff that a room service entry was not included. For reasons know only to them, we had a more than 20 minute wait at the front desk for check out, risking us missing our flight. (7) There is no noise proofing done resulting in continuous traffic noise even in an air conditioned room throuhg the day.

This was our third visit to Goldfinch Hotel. Obviously we went there because we had liked it in the past. This was a reasonable long stay of five nights. The first couple of days were terrible - we had to go through some kind of construction activity at the terrace of the hotel with heavy duty drilling. The hotel staff offered alternative room with twin beds that was not suitable and finally for third day got shifted to reasonably decent room. I threatened the hotel management regarding the construction noise disturbance and they made it stop for our last 3 days. Location is absolutely great. Everything is near by. Rooms are good and very clean but need better maintenance. Housekeeping need to be reminded to keep hand towels which is basic requirement. Also they need to do something about street noise. The Mangalore traffic has inceased - it would be wise to change the glass to soundproof windows. Breakfast buffet is great - they keep changing the spread with at least one or two local Manglore items. The Kebab Studio on our earlier visits was too good but this time extremely disappointing. Limited barbeque veg items and buffett was so-so. Apart from the barbeque there were no other starters - they used to serve few more before. Lacks professionalism in service. A mocktail was ordered by my wife and I had a beer and in spite of specific request to bring them together they brought them 20 minutes apart. And goofed up on mocktail and got us a wrong one. While they did not bill it at that time in I was billed in the overall Hotel bill at check out time and I paid it as I did not go through itemized list. The Hotel on 8th floor San Dige is absolutely a must visit. Food is great - while we tried very few items on last day of our stay wished we had visited it earlier. Don't miss YellNeeru Ginger Lime and Neer Dose and Stew or Mangalore Gassi. Also Happala Chutney. Am sure there are lots of other good items but this is what we tried. Service and Ambiance is great and Mr. Janardhan the captain particularly took care of us well at San Dige. a Word about the Staff - In spite our initiall hiccups in stay the staff went out of the way to make us feel comfortable. Want to specially thank Ms. Avita who ensured our stay was comfortable. The Guest Management task was also courteous and took care of our needs.
