My mother and I have been regular guests at the Ambassador Hotel, Mumbai, since 2013. We have also frequently reserved rooms here for our guests from outside the country. This November, we had a most disappointing stay. Having stayed so frequently, the hotel staff is well aware we prefer a quiet room. On reservation, we always request for room number 414, our usual room and were informed that the room was confirmed for our stay from November 3rd to 5th, 2016. However, on arriving at the hotel, room number 414 was not available. When we reminded the hotel staff that we were informed we could have this room for our stay, they told us there was no such confirmation. So, they assigned us a different room. At the room door, the electronic card key failed to work, so the reception provided another key, which also failed to work. As we were unable to enter the room, due to malfunctioning door card keys, the staff moved us to a different room down the hall. That night, we were unable to sleep, as there was a lot of noise outside the room. It turned out that the pantry was located around the corner through the floor exit door outside our room. The noise due to staff accessing the pantry, shouting out at each other and the harsh opening/closing of the pantry and floor exit doors was most disturbing and annoying through the night as they worked in the pantry and into the early hours of the morning as they started their tea service. We are surprised that even though late that night, we complained about the noise to the staff at the hotel desk, the staff was unable to detect that the noise was associated with pantry activities, upon visiting our room. We have had frequent stays at this hotel and we am surprised that they gave us this room down the hall, bearing in mind they unequivocally know we like a quiet room. We complained about our overnight experience to the staff again the next day and they moved us to room number 314. Though quieter, the electronic card key detector (to start the lights) in the room was faulty. The coffee bar was inadequately equipped with no stirrers and only one coffee mug. The main light bulb is the bathroom was out of order, with the result that the bathroom was inadequately lit. I am disappointed with the lack of attention provided by the staff to our reservation and room requirements, which they are unequivocally aware of. I am further disappointed in the staffs lack of interest in room maintenance. We have decided to refrain from staying at the Ambassador Hotel, Mumbai and shall also be refraining from reserving rooms here for our guests.
Stayed there with my wife last week for 5 nights. Had requested for a room as per our requirements, though we had to wait for a couple of hours since we arrived early, we were given a room absolutely as per our requirements. The staff was very polite and obliging, the breakfast good with a mixed Indian & Western spread (though no ham or bacon items, probably because of Muslim pax). The only two negatives were the appalling WiFi (no chance in the room, and very slow in the Lobby). Even the staff very helpful but accepted the bad connection, or even the hoops one had to jump through to even log-in. One had to get a new password every day. The other grouse was lack of hot water in the evenings, when one returned from the muggy weather outside. Must thank their Front Office Manager Mr. Pinge was making things good otherwise.
When we first walked into the reception we could smell the damp. The 1st room we were shown had a wet bed from dampness. the Mattress was soaking wet. SO we refused to stay in the room. we then got upgraded for free to an executive room which had the same issue of the dampness and wet mattress. We walked out of the hotel.
I had the most horrifying experience at the hotel. Hotel Management does not know how to behave with guests. I had the hotel booked for three nights, however, I checked out after two nights due to behaviour of staff. I had a visitor, with whom the hotel behaved in a very rude manner and denied her entry stating that guests were not allowed post 8 pm in the hotel. When I asked for the written document stating the same, they refused to provide it to me. I would request everyone to stay away from this hotel. I have tried contacting the GM of the hotel, Mr Joseph more than 4 times and I'm still to get a response from him. I have never felt more humiliated and would request everyone to stay as far away from this hotel as possible.
