Budget hell hole Budget hell hole

by Ayesh K on February 26, 2016

I travel quite sure often, and go for the cheapest accommodation and still prefer hostels to meet new people. This hostel proved me wrong. It's located just in front of the Seven Hill hospital and any auto rickshaw driver will take you there. A bus stand and a taxi stand is nearby so there is that. However, the dorm room is like a hell. It's located down the reception area, and there were about 11 or 12 beds crammed inside the room. The guy right beside my head kept kicking my head over the night, and the fan was too close to me so I didn't stand up to not kill myself from it. The beds were too small and you have to count on your luck that you'll not fall from the upper beds that do not have any protection. The wifi was good, I could check in early and the staff was good. But by the absolutely lowest standards, it's still not a place to stay. I booked for 7 nights, stayed 1 night (3-4 hour sleep I guess) and left. It's about 45 INR from the airport (3-4km), and there were some good restaurants/bars outside. Marol Naka metro about 1km afar. Overall, this is still a good place to stay if you are on an extremely low budget. But I would spend 50-100 more rupees and get myself a better place. I paid about 250 rupees a night so that's dead cheap. But I could find a decent small but better room for about 300 rupees.

get what you pay for... get what you pay for...

first off, let's just say the photos are NOT of this property. it's a grungy hole in the wall with 7 rooms total, stained walls and sheets, old fixtures, on a noisy road, etc. on the plus side though, it's super cheap for bombay (i paid just over rs. 1000/night on cleartrip), under 10 mins (35 rupees by rickshaw) from the intl airport, fast free internet, and great if you just need a place to crash, or stash your gear while heading out to the city. the first room they showed me smelled quite stale and had no windows, but they readily showed me the next one over which smelled fresh (for bombay, lol). this will do for now- i might splurge on something nice for the last day. one more thing- unmarried hetero couples not allowed (not sure how they determine that).

As a backpacker on a budget i've got pretty low standards, this place is cheap but its a dive, the owners are extremely rude too. You'll probably be sharing the dorm with local Indian men as opposed to travellers, i'm male so it wasn't a problem but if you're female you should look elsewhere.

We booked rooms for a fixed amount and then when we got there he told us he never spoke to us on the phone and suggested his other guest house, conveniently located around the corner, for a much higher price.
