I titled this review this way, even though I am a man. This hotel is really only 3.5 stars but it wouldn't take much for the management to persuade me to improve this rating.
My wife and I attended last weekend for 3 nights for a business conference. We were allocated a beautiful suite by the conference organisers, who generously paid for us. But the suite was set up for single men: there was no full length mirror, no make-up mirror, one towelling robe, one set of slippers, one set of bathroom amenities and only enough towels for one person. Every day we had to ask for more, even though the staff could see what they were taking away. For goodness sake people - replace like with like..
The staff are lovely, very polite and extremely attentive. But many appear under-trained (as per the bedroom attendants), so this can be easily remedied by the management.
The suite was very well appointed, with good internet and lots of plug points for equipment re-charging. The bed was Queen sized and very comfortable; but the pillows were cheap foam ones, usually only found in low standard hotels, and softer feather pillows were not available (although they were being advertised by Sheraton on the TV screen next to reception).
The bathroom disappoints: it is very poorly grouted and grimy around the edges. The shower is in the bath and difficult to climb into for older people like oujrselves because of the poor positioning of the handrails. Everything else is modern but the toilet had a cheap seat, not fixed properly. The mat in the base of the bath was grubby and had seen better days.
The standard of the food was adequate to good but often not very hot, and as well as ourselves, we saw lots of adjacent guests sending back their food for re-heating. The breakfast buffet was only average for this part of the world - only a very limited fruit selection, no range of breads (white or brown, but nothing else) although plenty of choices of hot food.
We attended a dinner at the hotel, but they couldn't rustle up any no-sugar drinks, except cranberry juice: all the other fruit juices and sodas were full of sugar, something that one doesn't expect in this day and age. The condiments on the table did not always include sugar-free sweeteners.
Lest my review demeans this hotel, I should summarise by saying that it is very comfortable but could do better. It could easily be raised to a four-star plus, with very little effort by management at very little extra cost. I think that the local management could do with a visit by the Sheraton team, to advise them how to raise the standard.
