Good dormitory Good dormitory

by Nikhil P on January 18, 2017

Located at walking distance from GPO in Fort area, this is a great option if you want to stay for a day or two near CST. The rates are quite affordable for dormitory area, staff is also very helpful and friendly. I stayed there recently during my visit to Mumbai for participation in Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon. This was my choice as the start point of marathon , Chatrpati Shivaji Terminus(CST) was quite close to the place and I had to start early in morning (5:40 AM). The beds are quite clean in dormitory areas, the toilets are common and are located behind the reception on each of the floors. There are 5 beds in the dormitory room. The construction is quite old for the building but it is nicely maintained. Only negative which I felt was lack of storage box/lockers where bag packs can be put in while going out in dormitory rooms as the room remain open most of the time.

The Windsor Hotel: the name already sends your imagination away to an old colonial era which is still present and touchable in this harbor city... We got there at night, after wondering around the nearby streets surrounded by incredible architecture. The sweet and smiley staff welcomed us into this large 2 floors guest house. The customers are mainly long-term stayers in Mumbai. Only 4 guests were foreigners, which made our experience very authentic! The room was not so clean, the shared bathroom could have been better, there was no hot water and the internet only works in the hallway, we saw a mouse in the hallway and a cockroach in the room. Despite this, our experience there was really good! As far as you get a little organized to overcome the lack of western hospitality standards, you'll be fine. We want to thank everyone from the security guy to the receptionists, the cleaners and the cooks.

Good standard for Indian hotel Good standard for Indian hotel

The staff there is extremely nice and they even accepted dollars since we were out of rupees. The rooms are quite good, although not so clean. Breakfast if quite ok, but the best part is the location: 5 min s walk away from the central train, metro station and 15 mins on foot away from the Gateway of India.

Dirty, overpriced and not friendly Dirty, overpriced and not friendly

Its like you are in a prison. We had a 5 persons dormitory for 1 nights. It was dirty on the floor and our bathroom was really dirty. We had NO hot water. The toilets are more dirty. You also dont get a blanket. It is the cheapest hotel I found in Mumbai but its too expensive. Just like the rest of Mumbai, overpriced.

Cheap but not very cheerful Cheap but not very cheerful

We stayed in Hotel Windsor Mumbai on our first visit to India and Mumbai. We arrived slightly earlier not a problem but if you want to feel at home and safe don't stay here Every time we left the hotel we chained our bags to the beds because of the area and knowing the staff loitered. Unfortunately the free breakfast wasn't great either. The beds are uncomfortable and shower is like a hose, sink doesn't drain out separately so the water just goes on your feet when you use it and the toilets are down the hall and very dirty. Overall not an experience we wish to repeat. Only perk is the location, within walking distance of gateway taj palace Churchgate station and round the corner to Victoria station
