Does exactly what it says on the tin Does exactly what it says on the tin

Brilliant for budget travellers/backpackers. We got a room without a window, basic 2 bed, cubicle room. Never stayed in one before but wasn't bad at all. Communal bathroom which had 3 cubicles with showers. Always kept clean. And food to your room if you wanted it. Great for if you're just passing through. Good location 100rupees from station

The Indian Guest house holds an excellent position within Colaba, in the south of the city, within walking distance of the Gateway to India and Marine Drive (the Queens Necklace). The single room was very small, but had window with a sea view, and for a solo traveller it was perfect. The room wasn't spotless and a little dilapidated, with peeling paint etc. But again this feels very acceptable considering the price (especially for Mumbai). There is no communal area and the walls are more sort of partitions which don't reach the ceiling. This encourages everyone to be quiet between the front desks "sleeping hours", roughly 11pm to 9am. However if you arrive after 11pm someone will wake up to let you in. The staff generally just want to get on with their job and are very efficient. All my requests were net with quick and clear response. For example they organised my passage down to Goa, and quoted me a much better price (and break down of what I was getting for my money) than some of the travel agencies I approached in Mumbai. No significant complaints, thanks a lot for having me x

The guys at the front desk are helpful and gave us great directions on how to get around. The place could've been cleaner but given the price and location... you can't really have high standards. I mean it wasn't bad just some dust bunnies here and there. But the linens all smelled clean. Obviously there is a shared bathroom/shower area that is gender neutral. I am not sure if they have a/c rooms but when we were there it wasn't necessary but imagine at one point it might be. Also the rooms have no ceiling? if that makes sense... It seems like the place used to be one large open room that they divided with walls. So basically you have paper thin walls and could hear your neighbors next door. That wasn't a problem as most people are respectful. Also there is no common area where you can hang out besides your room. Also the wifi is great at times but it would shut off or be slow other times but that was nothing new in India. Its in a great location! You are walking distance from the Gate of India and some shopping areas and a market. Honestly for the location and the price its hard to beat this place.

India Guest House is an extremely basic hostel offering relatively small private rooms at an extremely competitive rate (750INR for a double room). It seemed safe with a security guard outside at night, it was adequately clean and the bathrooms were actually very nice. In addition, it is in a great location, especially for the price - it is near the sea, tourist attractions such as the Gate of India, and lots of nice places to eat. The only downside was the ceiling, the rooms are only divided using partitions so the walls don't reach the top of the ceiling, meaning that light leaks out of other rooms and so does sound. Honestly though, I can't complain for such an excellent price in such an excellent area as Colaba.

Good value for money Good value for money

I stayed two nights and was quite happy with what I got for my money! I had checked out a few other places in Colaba and 750 INR for a room with two beds and a small window is a steal given the other prices you can find. - yes, the rooms are tiny, have no "roof" and the walls are thin as paper, but it was clean and I got a clean bed sheet upon request - the bathrooms were surprisingly good for Indian standards! No mould, big marble tiles that make it look almost modern and the showerhead battery allows you to wash you feet with a separate water tap (but just cold water) Western toilet is in the same room so you can do your whole spa treatment without leaving the room! - be nice to the staff and they treat you nicely... I kindly asked for taking a shower in the evening after having checked out and it was not a problem - location is just superb - the street just in front of the hotel is not so busy so it is fairly quiet at night (unless one of your neighbors snores ;)) - that you can hear given the paper thin walls Yes, compared to other places in India really expensive but compared to what you get in Mumbai (especially colaba: a good deal!)

Demo Trip I would suggest the rooms furthest away from the reception and the bathrooms because it is quieter.
